hi all, im no to sure where i should of posted this topic, but i have a few question. a few weeks ago i notices a bit of a rattle in my exhaust which turned into a heavy vibration when stationaary.( i assumed something was loose) about 2 weeks later after driving in the rain i noticed a funny sound, i looked under the car to find my muffler bubbling some water. after closer examination i found a small hole in the muffler. the Exhaust has now, after a trip to the goldcoast, completely split and is now in two pieces. f**k. car this be repaired or replaced? it has also melted my fear buimber around the muffler tip.
HOW ON EARTH DID THIS HAPPEN? |

Weird!!
I have never in my life ever heard of an exhaust melting the rear bumper on a Ford ever. Is the tip touching the rear bumper or something? If you can get pictures of this melted weld your talking about and where its cracked, that would be a good help. Pictures say a thousand words . |

Replace the exhaust, its not like they are expensive.

I don't have a photo handy.
I too had my bumper melt and the corner of the tailight when I had an exhaust crack near the rear resonator in the wagon. The exhaust was damaged by crunching on the ground esp bluestone driveways. This was fixed with new springs but that's another story. I was towing an enormous house moving trailer about 3 tons and the exhaust was red hot. Suddenly car filled with smoke. I turned off the freeway and went straight to a nearby exhaust shop and had the rear section replaced. Luck they had what I needed and could do it right away as we were moving house. 5 years later it rusted out again and I have since repaired the head crack which was causing so much water in exhaust.

Many years ago, these dipsh!ts came into work, with a broken exhaust on an EA wagon.
It had broken near Townsville, and they drove it to Rocky like that ( 700+ km), and it had melted the tail-light and rear bumper, also the rubber seal for the tailgate. They had 3 kids in the back seat and they were really sick ( CO poisoning). I was at work doing my own stuff ( didn't have any parts for it there), and it was a Sunday.

I lived with the melted damage for another 5 years until I was at the wreckers and saw a really nice bumper and tailgate in the right colour for $180.00. I had never changed the light as although it was a bit melted it didnt leak.
It's all nice and neat again now although the bumper is a bit scratched.
