well pulled my manual out to redo the clutch the other day and well instead of having normal trans fluid it it, it had oil as in manaul transmision oil thickish. which is strang. talked to my mechanic he recons just put 75w 90 oil back in if it when i re fit it. since oil was alredy in it.

never had a prob with the trans befor so hope it wont matter to much,,

ne1 else ever had this befor?

Non WC Boxes use Mineral Oils like 'manual gear oil 75w'

75w/90w wont kill a mildly worn T5.

Many people add friction modifiers to gearbox/diff oils.

Suggested T5 oils are:
ATF-Dexron2
Penrite Xtra-Lite
Redline Shockproof.
Castrol Transmax Z
Manual Gear oil 75/80
etc etc

and not in that order.

However WC T5's (EB2 and Up) Must use ATF OR Specific Use Fluids.

might be noisy with ATF.

There's a drain plug and a Fill Plug on the drivers side.

Undo the lower one, remove the 1.7ish liters and replace with fresh cheap atf, take it for a spin, dump and replace the a premium fluid.

That should do it.

Fill it up till the fluid comes out the fill hole, Or if fussy, add 1.9liters.

just a theory, atf would be lighter then gear oil. so if you were to flush the gear oil out, i'd leave it to settle for a while after runing atf through for the first time. then the gear oil should come out of the box first, with the atf settling on top of it.

if the atf is wrong for your box, youll know straight away by how it sounds / feels. if so change it back straight away!

if it was running gear oil before it was pulled out and had no problems i would put gear oil back in..
i did put trans fluid in after the last clutch change and the box became noisy.
so i went back to gear oil.
and im currently running penrite fully synthetic gear oil in mine and its all good.no noises.

Mine has always had atf in it, and i replaced with atf last time, but it is noisy. My box also does not shift the best.

Will manual gear oil of some sort help mine?

The gearbox is meant to have an additive as well as auto trans oil and if it is running gear oil it would be to quieten it down because its worn.

yes it would..

mine ran gear oil in when i got the ea it came from.
i then changed to trans fluid with the additive and it become noisy..
so i went back to gear oil and ive been running gear oil ever since and its still ok.
ive been using this box for 4 years now..
and yes its probably a bit worn with over 300.000kms on it and is still going strong...
