hey all, i'm nearly done putting climate in my EF XR6 8-) but the problem is when i do the self test is says E6. i found out its the evaporator temperature sensor. i had the same error when i did the self test on the car b4 climate. i changed the sensor by plugging in another one outside near the glove box, but its still the same

i reckon the ECU is faulty can I plug in any ECU from a EF? and will my car start?

thanks heaps.

ok i took a bit of a gamble and got another ECU from the wreckers, i couldn't remember the catch code, but got sold a 4TBD when mine was a 4TDB  anyway I checked the catch codes from the forums and found out the 4TBD is for a EFII Fairmont ghia with the Tickford engine.

plugged it in and voila! problem solved :D im pretty sure the ECU would be ok for the XR6, with the only difference being the ghia ECU is speed limited? thanks.

ok boys, i pulled the old ECU apart and had a bit of a brainstorm  is it possible just to get a normal EF ECU and just change the EPROM off the XR6 ECU to the normal ECU? a mate reckons its the big rectangle chip I have to swap, and then it will work as an XR6 ECU :?: thanks.

unless its something on the board itself, the j3 reprogram thing is an option

yeah the board is stuffed cause i plugged in a Fairmont Ghia ECU and the error code went away. with the J3 chip i need another ECU anyway so im thinking it's worth a shot. if it works then i've got a spare.

in that case, either get an ecu off a ef and reprg it to what ever you want, or get a ef that is similar to what you need. dont go pulling bits from one to the other
