very much depends on how much you want to spend, spacers will allow you to fit larger speakers into door or you can go custom if you have the dollars

6" speakers/splits with a shallow basket will fit in there perfectly.

6.5" should also be a straight fit as long as the basket on the speaker isnt too bulky. Some people have got away with using very thin spacers while others have modified the hole a little to allow it to fit properly and sit flush.

Mounting points for the tweeters is all up to you though. Some people make holes in the door trim up by where the little triangle cover is for the side mirror access. Other have just put them in the factory location on the dash, right under the windscreen. Just place them wherever you think sounds best :P

tin snips, hehe, when I put in my 6.5" soundstreams I had to trim the door itself a bit to fit them in.

I've got a 2" tweeter, 4" mid, 6" and a 8" subwoofer in my doors. Get creative and it's not that hard to fit them in there.

Remove the door trim to get to the speaker (check out the technical docs for info on this). No, the speaker holes are 6", a lot of 6.5" speakers will also fit straight off, some might require a small bit of encouragement in some form or another.

Do you have any pic of it, id love to see what it looks like. does it cause any damage to the door when they are in use?

No, they don't damage the door - or the damage is all intentional from when I cut the holes etc.

This is my first attempt:

Attempt 2 is currently underway using a Fairlane Ghia door trim for the power windows etc.

I would use the factory tweeter loction it works the best for sound stage hight and width.
You can buy a 6.5 spacer from any car audio shop for about $15 already done if you get a 12mm spacer you can bolt a big basket 6.5 spearker in there. With the 6.5 spacer you have about 75mm of depth to play with.

Yeah ive installed Alpine Type R splits in the factory positions in my XR its sweet as nice stealth install. BTW when u take out the factory tweeters in the dash u can use the factory brackets to fit most tweeters in their as well to save time and money.

I manged to fit the speakers easy in the doors after i made some room. Magnets were huge and need to be careful of window etc.

tin snips ftw. That's how I fit 6.5" Clarions in my EA. From 4" to 6.5" is a massive change!
