Yes, like I said BEFORE - the power increase claimed by JMM is not simply from screwing in those plugs - it's because screwing in those plugs allows greater base timing...

And it's absolutely correct that each engine is very subjective as far as exactly what plug will suit it and the only way to tell is by checking how they're running.

In all the articles I've read, JMM said nothing about altering timing, the 4rwkw was from the plugs ONLY, no other mods.
If its true about changing the timing, then its yet another 'white lie' from JMM.

They've never lied to me - Brendan was straight up in explaining about being able to run increased base timing with those plugs. Perhaps they assume a certain amount can be taken as "understood" as it makes no sense that just screwing the plugs in alone would make any more power.

Keep in mind too that in cars with knock sensor systems - ie. with Falcons that's EF onward - the ECU will very likely end up giving the engine more max total advance without any actual physical timing adjustment - with nett result of more power. On the face of it that might fit the description of "more power just by screwing in Autolite plugs" - but IMO that still doesn't contradict the understanding that the plugs themselves don't make the power. My discussions with Brendan were in relation to my ED and most certainly involved physical increase in timing.

This post has been very much hi jacked, but in saying that its caused some good debate and thats what its all about, i have to agree very much that the e series EA,B, D will have to be tuned to get any gains from that type of plug. What i would like to see if its true is some real figures and like what was said, how much on the other model falcons would the computer alter all of it anyway.

Yep, I agree. From my own experience I certainly found them to not make the car run poorly by any means but then one of them did fail which is something I've never had happen with any other type of plug. Subsequently going to the ZGR6's saw certainly no drop in performance. I also never fully explored the possibilities with base timing - it's only been recently that I've discovered the best way to set timing on ED/EL is to keep advancing until it feels to be losing power then back off a bit.

Also I owe you an apology Autofast2 - you did clearly comment about timing in relation to the Autolites - we ended up sort of at crossed purposes there as I was actually addressing the negative vibes being aimed at JMM and sideswiped you on the way thru - sorry mate.
