I have a v8 automatic in my car and wish to use it behind my 6 cylinder... im wondering if it is possible and what are the differences between them apart from the bellhousing obviously...

The V8 output shaft & extension housing is longer + the convertor has different mounting pads - It's possible, but you have to play around with the tailshaft length....

thanks for the reply man , yeah i dont think im going to do it, I have a 6 cylinder gearbox but this v8 box was rebuilt so i wanted to use it..

Also they have different solenoid line pressures i think, but yes, definately different length tail housing and output shaft. If you look at a pic you can see it. And i would imagine the convertor would also be different.

any difference between the eb ed v8 autos and the ef el v8 autos? other than the filler tube/plug..
are ratios the same? same length/size? iv heard the ef was built a bit better than eb ed but unsure of how.. cheers |

The EB - ED V8's are called a BTR 95 & the EF - AU V8's are a BTR 97. They have the same ratios- But the only real difference is the length of the convertor throat between the 95 & the 97...

The V8 BTR that came out of my LTD (same as ED) was a BTR93E

would you recommend one over the other? or just which ever one i can find with the less kms?[/quote] It would be good if you could find a BTR 95. They have external band adjustments so you can actually adjust the bands when you service it & they have dipstick tubes to save rolling around under the car to fill up the transmission. But if you can get offered a low KM BTR 97 at the right price, Go with that. |
