That sump is alot easier to modify than the K Frame for sure and a piss easy job for a welder

i've read its possible to fit the e-series sump, but this thread seems to suggest its too difficult...

The A series sump is what’s called a “Structural Sump”. The E series sump is light gauge sheet metal pressed.
The reason Ford went for the “Structural Sump” was to reduce longitudinal flex in the in-line 6 motor and therefore reduce oil leaks which earlier Fords were well known for and to also reduce engine vibrations so as to make the new model Falcon a smoother vehicle. Ford spent many millions of dollars designing and developing these sumps. Modifying these sump is probably not recommended and even though Fordom has done an excellent job welding his, I’d be concerned about potential future problems, that could be encountered due to modification i.e. oil volume, oil leaks, oil pickup problems etc. As for cutting the k frame without engineering certificate etc, I’m sure it can be done but again, what potential problem are you introducing that might not be immediately obvious? Again, Ford spent many millions of dollars designing and developing that part of the car. Is cutting and welding it a good idea??? I’m not trying to throw a bucket of water on what could otherwise be an excellent mod to an E series Ford, but I just thought I’d put a different point of view on the table an share my thoughts. |

Yeah thats why ford welded the rear suspension support in my au 1 after it came off the assembly line , thats why i cant get toe link adjusters, thats why they filled the rear quarters with foam on x series, thats why i got crap e series brakes on my au,thats why they had to make the xp falcon, thats why they made the 3.3 ohc motor, they dont always no what they are doing, holdens dont have chassis, daewoos have 20 year old camira engines,350z have renualt engines, every thing can be improved if the e series was so good the FG would just have different panels on.GO FORTH AND MODDIFY MY CHILDREN.i could go on! the new triton has less occupant safety rating then its little brother the micra

It is when you're adding strength to the material by welding thicker steel than what it was originally made from. |
