Hey guys, lately ive been having trouble getting into reverse in my 5 speed. I need to let go out the clutch slowly and it will slip in..otherwise i have to slam it in. The clutch cable is adjusted right, as its fine in all other gears..
another problem is going into 2nd, it doesn't grind but i can feel a slight hesitation and can feel the gears moving before it slips in..would this be the syncro on its way out? |

iv found hard getting into reverse a common problem on the t5s,i alway put it in 5th then into reverse,it seems to always go in first go when i do that

I'd recommend an oil change on the box, you might not think it, but even if it doesnt whine or crunch it can make a noticeable difference.
And yeh, selecting R can be a pain with a T5. Just have to pop it into another gear then R, I go to 2nd, then it works fine. 2nd will crunch if I shift quick when the box is cold, ripshifter doesnt help lol. Joys of a T5 I guess. |

according to the EA falcon repair manual the proper way to put a 5spd gearbox into reverse is to hold your foot on the clutch for 4 seconds and then select. this stops the grinding.

Remember to use the right oil. If oil is too thick it will crunch in all forward gears.
I use a mix of Castrol Dex III ( 80% ), and Castrol VMX 80 ( 20% ), and a tube of Nulon G70 additive. Works well, even when cold.

the box just got put in with fresh oil (nulon atf fluid dx3 and the nulon additive ) ill try the 5th then reverse thing..

if your sure you have the right oil .
it sounds like a clutch problem to me , could be worn selector. syncros would crunch mainly changing down ito second?? |
