hay guys i got a worked EFI 250 crossflow with standerd ECU and was woundering would i be better off changing it to a carby and if i do this will it run ok on dual fule. i need it to be on dual fule couse im putting the engine in my landcruiser and dont want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere couse ive run outa gas.
what sort of carby would i use? 600 holley. OR would i be better off leaving it EFI and puting a better ecu on it if so what older modle ECU would run it as im on a tight budget. would it run better on dule fule if i leave it EFI. any info would be grate. thanks |

Hey mate i have done a few of these... i would go carby less wiring no need for electric fuel pump no need for computer the xf injection set up is not that good... if you plan to use lpg a lot i would go holley a weber is good on fuel but will be a little less energetic on gas... holley not as ecomomical on fuel but much more grunt on gas.... i would get a weber manifold and an adaptor if you dont want to pay for a holley style manifold,350 holley, change to a electronic dizzy from carby model 250 and all will be good, injection cam will work as mild cam on carby motor, chuck in some ngk zgr6b-11 take the gap down to 0.8 or 1.0,bit of extra timing i have had no problems with this set up

I have used a 600 holley on a warm 250 -shaved 200 closed chamber head big valves big springs warm cam cain manifold 2 inch spacer hypertec pistons balanced bottom end blah blah-any way it was pulled down a few times and i had a lot of cylinder wash it only revved to 5600 so an engine that size will strugle to eat that much fuel..... but it did get good fuel consumption... 600 would be good on lpg very good i would think...if you have a 4 barrel manifold and will run it on lpg a bit i would go the 600 and if you know how to tune the 600 you can get it to really haul on petrol..hope it helps...and if you have high comp dont be scared to step up the heat range in your plugs! close the gap a little aswell...

what carby do you have ? is it a weber? if it is the little blade conection on the side of the motor needs to be hooked up to ignition wire(comes on when key is on) its for the idle switch. If it is a holley carb float level or something stuck in the main feeds or maybe mixture screws start at 1 and a half turns out to make it run.

Yes a 600 holley is way too big, unless you have your 250 running 13 seconds,
unless you rev past 5000rpm i wouldnt go bigger than a 350 holley. .
