i have an AU motor in my el,running the dizzy wuth the el gear on it.my car has developed an intermittant miss under load and now has a tapping noise that sounds like a lifter but the timing of the tap(when revs are falling eg;coming down to idle) is like timing chain trying to "catch up"
i havent looked into it yet but what should i check for, assuming it is the aux shaft

it seems to be a common issue with the au engine fitted with a dizzy..
i had one fail last year..
the best way to tell is remove the dizzy and look down the dizzy hole with a torch, or put your finger in the hole and feel the gear for sharp edges..

but it sounds like your miss could just be valve or valve spring related.
mine only missed on full throttle over 4000rpm and was poping and backfiring on decelleration

the engne has now done about 85000kms and only 10000kms have been with a dizzy and boost.
so the problem they have is stripping the teeth off the aux shaft in the dizzy hole?i have read your posts but thaught it was a more dramatic problem than this.
i'll check the teeth this week and put the au gear on the dizzy, and check my lifters.
nothing else i should look for??
