Just wondering if the intake manifold has to be removed as well as the exhaust manifold when replacing the heater pipe? its the long section from the water pump.
I really dont want to remove it unless necessary. thanks gem.

Will be interested to hear the reply to this one as I have to do the same job. I think you're on the right track with the manifold removal. I do recall an ex ford mechanic on this forum mentioning something about levering or jacking the engine in one spot to do the job quickly. It was one of the post I read when I first joined fordmods.
Just found this old post. ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/replacing-heater-pipe-t32607.html

I had that hose split on me in my EB, and I'm quite sure, unless you can get right underneath, you would need to remove the intake manifold. That's why I took it in to a place to get it done, only charged me $50 so I wasnt too fussed. Might be different from EB to EL however.
