my car is a ba fairmont ghia v8. ive got a few engine dramas and it might actually be cheaper to get a whole new recond motor for it and sell my old one to someone with the time to fix it them selves.

im aware that the 3valve motors are pretty rare and currently havent found one here in WA, there is alot of boss 260s though.

what would be involved to put an xr8 motor into my car, i know the gearbox is the same and ive got the same diff (even thought its a single pegger) so realisticly it should just bolt in?
but electrical wise what other parts would i need.
id also need the bonnet bulge.

is it even worth the hassle, should i just keep looking for a 3valve?

also whats the difference between a 220kw motor and the bf's 230kw.
would a bf motor fit right into the ba no dramas or would that need a bf ecu etc aswell

Unless you've got a big wad of cash i'd stick to the 3v, and as noisy as it may be they are tuff motors, i've been trying to kill my for the past year so i have an excuse to build mine up and she doesn't miss a beat. But just think about this, it'll cost you about 6k to convert a 3v to a Boss and around 4-5k to buy a Boss and a fair bit more to swap engines out. I'd say it would be cheaper to get your heads reco'd which is where your problems will most likely be.

And as far as the Boss conversion goes, it's just a straight swap and all you need is a new wiring loom. From what i have been told the ECU can be programmed to suit.

ITS A f**k DILEMMER!
i dont have the cash to pay for so much labour or the time to stuff around having the car left in peices in a workshop while bits go and get tested, checked and ruled out.
i cant sell the car because no one will pay decent money for it sounding the way it does, even if i got $15000 for it i wouldnt find another ba v8 for that price in the condition this one is in and with rims etc. i dont really want to go from this to a pov pack xr8 with no options either.
im not buying an au. and i dont really want to go back to e series.

the thing is i can hear timing chain noise, i can hear lifter noise. then all of a sudden the sound of a diesel comes in after 1100 rpm!
lol i think ive just snapped!

id rather a 3valve in there because its different, and imo they sound way better

if i can get a motor for 3k or under its going in.

do engine reconditioners actually buy motors off people? or do they just expect them for free?

Walliston wreckers do boss motors for roughly 3500 and i reckon they would be the only ones that could get a 220 3v also

nope havent had alot of time.
still looking for a 3 valve motor but have had no luck anywhere.
anyone know any other good places in perth other than walliston wreckers?

ive even contacted ftg over east to try source once and have had no luck.

cheapest xr8 motor ive found with the neccesary bits i need for a conversion is 3.5k then adding the labour on top of that to change it over and a new bonnet its gonna work out costing way to much. id much rather a 3v in it rather than a boss, even if it is less powerfull, it'l be easier to sell down the track i rekon

ive had some advice to goto xft in perth the bloke that runs it is ment to be pretty good with the newer ford v8s so maybe he'll pick up what the noise is straight away but i doubt it.

if i found a 3valve for sale tomorrow in the 3 grand mark i rekon id nearly have a heart attack :p but i doubt i will :(
