hey guys

i did the mod last night and its all good except for the antenna and rear demister switches. I plugged them in and then switch the dash lights on and they started smoking so i killed them quick. now what have a i done??? i didnt put resistors on them cause theres like no room for them. Is that what they need or have i just put them in the wrong way??

cheers

LED's can only handle 5volts hence the resistors to drop the volatge from 12v to 5v.

I think you just cooked a couple of LED's

if they are LED's, then they will need resistors. the way i did the switches was just add extra wire so the resistor was all on the left empty side and then the wires came around and hooked onto those little metal bits :P

yeah it does BUT don't take the bulb out, and leave it out! :? i did that to mine, turned the lights on, and it fried all the wires! smoke coming from under the dash is not cool. i put the blown bulb back in & just left it...

sold the car before i got around to fixing it

Yeah, one of the metal tangs that the bulb base sits against flops around when it's not fitted, and will possibly short out against the other.
Other than aftermarket and Ford(easiest option), and robbing the bulb and holder from another demist S/W, if you have a spare base instrument cluster, the low fuel and high temp lights are the same type - but you need to remove the circuit board from the cluster to get at them.
