legal factors aside, yes it will change the smell of your fumes, and the exhuast note will change (sometimes better, sometimes worse, depends on the rest of your system)

As for the smell - it will probably smell rich now, as it probably will be running a touch rich(er, as theyre rich stock). Wont smell like rotten eggs or whatever.
Power difference is minimal, as is sound. |

If you do it, make sure you go sit behind the car whilst its running after.
If you aren't prepared to do that, then don't do it. Look at the pro's (marginal gain in power unless yours is clogged) and con's and it is a pretty self explanatory mod.

Mr. Plod like to insert battons into rectums of people with catless cars.

Yeah it does smell rich without a cat, especially after first starting it up for the day. I run no cat, no law to say you need one in NZ, and i doubt there would be much gain by gutting it, removing etc, unless its blocked.
My EF never had a cat from factory, to me without a cat it has a kind of hollow throaty sound, but i reckon it sounds better than other e-series 6's ive heard with a full exhaust with a high flow cat. The cat makes the exhaust seem sort of raspy when it revs out, without the cat its got more of a bark to it, sounds raw . But as said the sound with or without the cat will also depend on the exhaust you're using |

i have a "modified cat" in my wagon and yes the 1st start is rich and there is a bit of echo from the cat working like a resonator so close to the motor. if its fine now ide leave it... mine was stuffed!

A mate removed the cat from a tuned 2005 Integra Type R that he uses for a bit of circuit racing. Considering he is operating in a rev zone way beyond the capacity of any E-series 6, i highly doubt a street app would notice any difference.

But as said the sound with or without the cat will also depend on the exhaust you're using I found the complete opposite with exhaust note. When I had the pacies fitted the exhaust guy said my cat was hollow(original 10yr old cat), I replied "yeah I know, it all fell out when i fitted the 2.5 in sports exhaust". The sound was rough and raspy. When I ended up fitting a high flow magnaflow cat the sound from the exhaust deepened and I picked up a bit of power down low. Maybe if the cat has a 2.5in pipe welded through it it would sound ok, but basically mine was just like a big empty turtle shell with the exhaust gases bouncing everywhere............... Cheers and have a nice day
