Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has tried having their standard 5 litre roller camshaft reground and if there were any issues or problems. I imagine the choices of grind are probably a bit limited but it seems a lot cheaper than buying a new one. My car spends most of its time on gas and is mainly just for going to work so I am really only chasing a bit more torque down low. Also anybody tried running 1.7 roller rockers with the standard cam or advancing the standard cam or is it really just not worth mucking around with. Thanks in advance Fitter |

Depends what sort of money they want for a regrind? Add to that the reduced base circle causes trouble with the non-adjustable valve train....I wouldn't do it.
1.7's are a definite improvement with the stock cam which is a good piece anyway. |

I had one from a 91 Fairmont 5.0 done recently to suit a supercharged engine running 1.7 RR's, and the specs came out as
Advertised duration (@ 0.006) 282/294.5 050 duration 221.9/231.5 Valve lift 516/528 Lobe separation 113.9 The base circle was reduced by 0.040" so it may not even require the pedistals to be skimmed, but I'll probably just do it anyway. Cost was NZ$150 as a cash job.

Yeah I think I will give it a go I bought a second hand cam. And I was planning on skimming the heads anyway as it is running gas most of the time anyway.(I was shocked to see how much they want for gas in NZ last time I went home!!). Thieving government!!
Thanks for the replies. Fitter |
