I really thought I was stuffed when it happened. I thought the trailer had broken not a wheel off.

I have found over the years that alloy wheel nuts tend to loosen over time. I guess it's because the alloy expands and contracts a lot?

I have found loose nuts many times and had wheels come loose and wobble.

After this incident I checked the nuts on the car and found a few loose ones there too!

I still have 4 wheels as the classic had 5 from factory luckily. I will keep an eye out for anothr one though. I will have to swap the spare in the wagon for a steelie. I was going to fit a set of 16" wheels to the trailer as I replaced the tyres on the ute a few months ago. The Goodyear cargo's from it with make great trailer tyres. They still have a few mm of tread on them perfect for occasional trailer use. I just need to find a set of 16" rims to suit. I am going to rebuild the trailer with checkerplate aluminium as it's only $110 a sheet (8x4) from Capral.

I guess so long as It's not written off by insurance which seems to be the case! I dont like the damage to the A piller. the body is probably out of shape.

It would need a lot of $$$ parts but doable. I don't think it's AWD though!

2mm I think.

Small pieces at Bunnings are 3 times the price of Capral.

It is 4x50mm angle framed. It is very strong. I just need to remove the 1.5mm side sheeting and rebuild the roof. It is a box trailer.

The floor has rusted out pretty badly and the sides etc are looking a bit sad. I rebuilt the underframe a couple of years ago as the draw-bar was coming off. With Aluminium it will never rust again!

What I should do is strip it all down and send the frame for galvanising. then sheet the chequerplate.

Stainless floor I LIKE!

I might see if i can source a sheet for cheap. It's so tough it only needs to be 1.5mm
Mine is 7x5 tandem with 3ft6 enclosed 4 ft to the top rail. very high ground clearance too which is good for paddocks when I was building sheds. The roof is a good height for a mobile work platform which I used it for a lot.
I am keen to drop some weight of it. The thing is VERY solid and VERY heavy. you really niotice it when towing unlike the dog float which is a breeze :) I have had it for about 9 years and it has been bugging me all that time. I got it for $700 originally second hand. They still go for about $1500 in good nick which mine isnt. It has 4 wheel override brakes which badly need servicing. The master cylinder has disintegrated so I am looking out for a new one with a cast reservoir not plastic like the old one which has cracked.

That's a pretty big trailer. The floor is awesome.

Here's a Ghia ICC for you mate! Get the reversing camera set up as well. I love that feature on ours.

Have you got the beepers too?

With both the camera and beepers it's great.

I think the ICC should still work. they look the same?

From what I have seen they are very similar. The main difference being the 6 speed tranny and some minor cosmetics. The Body electronics seems to be the same but I am not an expert nor do I have a manual at all. Perhaps the reverse sensors came on the SY? or were they optional on the SX?

That's a testament to them holding their value. It is also just plain stupid. What other Australian car is worth $8 grand as a 5 year old write off?

When they were first released I planned on waiting a few years and then buying one for $12 grand. I am amazed that the base models are still over 12 grand most of the time for 6 year old cars with 250k on the clock.

You know the little things that annoy you?

In my FG ute there is a silver painted feature strip across the dash. When the sun reflects off this it is blinding. What moron thought this was a good idea? Come on! We have been making cars for long enough to know that reflective dashboards are a bad idea? I wonder if they test drive the designers schemes before production?

The other thing was the reflection from the bonnet scoop on the XR8. I had been in it 2 minutes and was blinded by the morning sun reflecting off it. This needs to have a matt black strip on it. This is fitted to the FPV etc but not the standard XR8. This could cause an accident.

I looked at the Ford website and there is a TS special edition out now. It has leather, side steps, 7 seats, 6 disc CD, roof bars etc. Good buy for a new car
