No No I cannot afford another new car... But then I am trying to get work to give me an allowance instead of the ute.
I would love to get a Terry instead

Having a ute as a work vehicle forces me to need a second family car. In the past i have had a panel van, an ED wagon, a hilux dual cab, and a rodeo dual cab. My current employer has 2 seater vehicles. we have utes now but as they get replaced they are buying diesel VW Caddy's which are even worse. I was offered a new caddy but I knocked it back to keep the FG ute. I have said several times I would prefer an allowance.
I could then get rid of the two old heaps and get a newish Terry on LPG.

Chevvy eh!
How much did you bid for it? I have just been driving a lot in the Terry the last couple of weekends. We went up to Tallangatta and Adelong last weekend with the dogs and no kids.. ite was weird not having the kids with us. As always the Terry ran like a freight train and ate the 1500 klm with ease. We even drove into a massive storm and i had to slow down to 60. Everyone was pulling off the freeway but as I slowed down I was happy enough to see ok so continued at half the speed for 10 mins until it eased up. We are off to Cohuna tomorrow for 4 dog shows. I saw a diesel terry outside the Ford factory at Broadmeadows last week too. It was being driven by an engineer and was no slouch. I took a couple of photos with my phone as it was beside me at the lights. I haven't uploaded them yet.

The dog trailer is light to tow but a huge wind drag.
The car uses about 20-30% more fuel at freeway speeds. I am lucky to get over 350klm from a gas tank of 63L which is terrible. The old wagon gets about 500 klm on a country run from 70L. I think we get about 450-500 klm from a tank without the trailer. I tried going slower to see if the instant consumption changed on the trip computer. It was negligible on flat ground between 100-110. I was wondering if it would use much less to do 95 instead but on a looooong trip it adds half an hour to the trip so we gave up trying.

There is a dealer here in Melton that imports F-trucks.
They used to be a Ford dealership but Ford delisted them 2 years ago for bad practices of some sort? http://www.harrisonmotoringgroup.com.au/

Is it on gas Ash? Thought the spare lived under the back. My Bro in Law and Sister just bought a Ghia AWD in the same colour, seems like a nice car. How many kms yours done? What problems you had?
Looks positively Arctic there. Not shaving keeps your face warm hey? |

Hi Ash,
yours eats tyres? Ours got 87k from the first set no problems. We had the rear bushes done under warranty but it is the exhaust that is the worry now. The dealer service guy let slip that there was a revision to the front pipe which should have been replaced under warranty. Too late now it's 4 years old. Apparently the manifold needs to be loosened and re-seated. There is also the crack I have found on the centre muffler. We are up to 98k and the gas injection is great. That spare wheel issue is a bugger though! I carry a tyre repair kit but a stuffed tyre would be a major problem as I dont carry a spare round town.

For info Ash, Our work Terry has 30k on it, and still on the original tyres.
I reckon we may get 40=50 outy of them. Brett

I got 75k from the original ute tyres as well. The Yokohama replacements are looking about 30% left at 123k right now!
There are stiffer springs available for cheap cost like these, I was going to get a set. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 500wt_1156 Rocky roads can tear up a set of tyres. I drive a lot of freeway and highway klm so I get above average life from my tyres.

You shouldn't need the poly airbags with stiffer springs. The bags are pretty pricey too! I have found the shocker bushes cop a fair bashing on the old EF wagon and have replaced them twice since fitting GT GAS rear shocks and 1 ton springs about 180k ago. The shocks are still in good working order unlike the hopeless front struts. I have towed and carried heavy loads 100s of times with the set up.
The Terry has a completely different rear end though so I don't know what is best there? I have seen heavy duty shocks listed but they are not cheap. The standard ones are huge so they should be fine although mine is a newer model than yours I don't know if they upgraded them! Ford make a lot of revisions to things like that as they get more Klm of experience in the field.

I would be interested to see how they perform. Ours sags a bit when loaded up so I am planning on the heavy duty springs when I pull my finger out. I really should fix the exhaust before I end up with some burnt out valves.

I have been working on the pergola last weekend. I have closed the ends in with clear polycarb and the birds are hitting it which was the idea. The buggers have been crapping all over the place and on my nice oregon beams and paving. I got one of the plastic owls from Bunnings I wonder if they work?
