Yes it's NOT a Ford but the way one of my friends was treated at a Bracket Attack event at WSID I though I would build a different mouse trap!!
First this is drag only car and most parts etc are made by ourselves even if we have to buy tools to make them...

Here it is just as we delivered.. Mustang shape and hopefully will sound like one..
Image
Stripped and mounted on rotisery utilising two engine stands...
Image
Cut out guard to fit tubs..
Image
Naturally not too followed the engine..
Image
Then what seemed years at the machine shop some C.P turbo friendly Forged pistons and Argo rods.. The block is filled to 30mm of deck with block fill [grout]to strengthen bores and block
Image
Six bolt ARP mains, steel crank.. With stroke the same as my 330 Ford with 3.25 stroke...
Which is actually longer in stroke than std 5.0 ford..
Image
14mm ARP head studs where drilled and tapped to prevent heads lifting with boost..
Image
This little Borg Warner S475 turbo should do the job.. 600 to 1200 h.p.
Yes thats a tennis ball !!!
Image
Then from Summit racing this Powerglide, manualised, trans braked etc etc..
Image
Aquired another engine for dummy fitting etc.. has no crank or pistons, very light..
Image
First attempt at fitting turbo .. To be changed using larger manifold pipes..
Image
Then recently I got the heads CNC'd .. They flow just over 200 CFM at .450 lift with std valves..
Image
Another pic.. The inlet will be custom made as the std manifold is VERY restrictive around flange.. I guess to improve torque as these engines are fitted to quite heavy cars.. Even the Soarer is 1800 kg.
Image
We had to change the steering box to rack and pinion .. So I fitted a whole crossmember, rack, steering shaft from a Corona.. The RA28 is 20mm narrower at the top of struts which doesn't matter too much.. The crossmember just needed some drilling as the bolt spacing was closser on Corona X member..
Image
New engine mounts made to clear exhaust manifolds..The bush is a Ford suspension part..
Image
Tight fit .. Just under the spanner you can see the steering shaft going to rack & pinion..
I would have taken the manifold out and back 10,000 times to get clearance!!!
Image
Waiting for 9" to be finished .. But I may pick it up and go elswhere.. :Craft diffs" seem to be stuffing around.. Over 4 month's and he hasn't done anything...

I was looking at getting some 6" as I'm NOT going the normal cheescutters 4" front...
I like to drive and stop at the other end, also not hit the wall on the way !!!
Possibly require a shut .. But get that when required...
Whats the offset ?? 8" maybe too wide ???
P.M price..

What size tyres do you have on that XR8? Do you have a side pic?

Seems like you get a lot done, and done well. Congrats.

EL GT copies with 245/45 - 17's.. Not enough grip.. Sewing the RTA for roads with no grip !!

Cool. What size tyres on the rear? They look pretty meaty, or is it just the squat doing that.

245 /50 X 15 drag radial slicks due to radial fronts and big brakes, 15's won't fit...
Cannot mix radial and crossply slicks.. They get the wobbles in the higher end of track..

Fitting latter model Corona rack and pinion gives plenty of room.. My issue is turbo exhaust manifolds and chassis rail clearance seeing I'm now using 42mm primaries..
Things have been changed little since early pics..
Image

The turbo is a S475 from Borg Warner. Capable of 800 to 1200 h.p..
With 75mm compressor wheel and 83mm exhaust with 1.32 A.R .. Its a drag engine yes big A.R and yes it will spool at 4000.. The Powerglide is manual valve body, trans brake, 4000 rpm converter, with 2 step..
Image

This is the compressor map..
Image

Here is a similar turbo on a Hi Ace engine 2RZ with 3RZ heads on 2.4 litre in class..
The Puerto rican guys can certanly build some quick small cars..
Pac performance, etc buy there cars from this area...
