Mystery Monday = more runs.
Next one is 11th Feb. I went to the Jnuary one and got 21 runs in on the bike. Good value for my $40. I did trap a 0.000 reaction time though, which isn't worth anything on a Monday. If I had done it on a Wed, I would have scored $1100 for myself.

I won't be doing anymore runs til I get the problem over 4500 sorted. It's all the time now and doing my head in!

Well, it's been a while since I've had anything to say about my car. I guess, for now, I'm finally somewhat happy with it!
I put it in for a service with someone I was recommended to by my old boss last week. I asked him if he could go over the motor thoroughly as well as doing the usual fluid change out and transmission oil as well. When I got it back I felt a huge difference from how it's been running. It pulls hard all the way to redline and then some. I called him to see if he did anything and all he reckons he did was unplug it if it could be unplegged, checked the connections and plugged it all back in. When I took it down the strip a little while back, not long after I got it back from the workshop, I was having a lot of trouble with it s**t itself after 4500 and only managed a 14.7. That's .2 of a second better than before the top end kit went in. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement! I was spewing! I went back to the Motorplex lastnight and on my first run with a very poor launch and taking it easy through the gears, I pulled a 14.5@100mph with a 2.5 60 footer. I could see potential for a flat 14. To cut a long story short, after improving on each run, on my final run I pulled a 13.9@100mph. 60 foot time was 2.20. I was launching from about 4500 - 5000 and it still bogged down a bit. A 13.8 should be possible if I can cut that 60' down ever so slightly. I guess now I can calm down and eat a small slice of humble pie and say that there is obviously not anything wrong with the way my top end has gone together. Apart from the few mechanical issues I had upon getting the car back and problems with the way it was running up until last week, it's all sweet. In an ideal world it should have been running like this way back when, but it's now sorted.

Good stuff Scaffy, been waiting for you to come on and break the news .
Spewing i didnt hang around to see the 13.9sec pass. It looked strong all night and the potential was there. Really happy to see it run the 13, its been a hard road but i bet it feels good when ya get something out of it. Hopefully i'll have some new tyres this week and will be able to head down next wednesday. I think you should consider and LSD rebuild with some 3.45 gears at the least. I may have a set up for sale soon if your still keen.

Well done, very impressed. I remember when i ran my 1st 13 in the Mont, and that was with stock everything bar a 150shot of NOS. Its a great feeling

Cheers guys. It does feel good. I think there's still a bit more in it yet.
I'm looking at putting 3.7s or 3.9s in it. When I do that though I want to be putting a nice strong lsd in there to be able to handle the power that will come later. I'm stoked to hit the 13s with the 3.23s in it though. I think that the 3.23s may compliment everything at the moment though cos it's right on the borderline of wheelspin, but doesn't quite light them up. With the shorter gears I think the runs will rely on a bit more driver ability!

Yeah the 3.7-3.9's will be alot more of a hand and foot full than the 3.23's, but it wont be that bad. Would be worth it though. Even 3.45's will do job well. Whatever ratio you choose out of the above, it will reduce those 60ft times with some decent rubber, and of course some good driving

Hahaha... good driving... I'll have to practice a bit then
It's certainly a good feeling to be able to finally mix it with the 5.7s! On the way to work yesterday morning I gave a P plater a bit of a shock in his VY SS ute. And this morning a VZ SS with hell loud and crackly exhaust couldn't pull away from me.

Nothing new to report as the car is exactly the same as the last post. However I have a question for those of you out there who know a thing or 2 about engine building...
How necessary is it to dial in a cam with a dial in wheel? I was chatting to a mechanic today and he said that anyone who thinks they can dial in a cam without using a dial in wheel is on drugs. Is this a true statement? Also, I think I may have found my next power upgrade.... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

Oh Yeah!
I have ben told that without a Dial in wheel you are guessing, the slightest couple of degrees will vary as well, but yeah.

Yes but you also need a dial gauge and the only way to make sure a cam is installed as per it's specs etc. However, some custom cam grinders use a method called "lift at TDC" so you don't need a degree wheel only a dial gauge and the lift specs you require are supplied by the grinder. JD |
