Now don't be silly scaffy....you want this .....
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku It's true all cams should be degreed in properly. Due to machining tolerances(or lack thereof) it allows you to check that the thing was ground to specs. Very rarely will you find a cam does not match it's grind specs but very often you'll find that they are not referenced to the pin properly. So you can have a cam that either advanced or retarded in reference to the pin. Advancing a cam generally results in increased low end torque at the expense of top end power and vice versa for retarded. Strangely all the cheaper flat tappet cams ive installed have been spot on but all the rollers ive installed have been out by at least 2 degrees....one of them was 11 degrees out!?....I degreed it five times because I thought I was doing something wrong. Pete. |

Funny you say that Pete as the Comp XE270HR-14 that went into my mates AU not long ago was out by 2deg to specs.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku Yes, another thing I would like When I get it stroked, get the 'box beefed up and the diff done, the next thing I'll be looking to do is get it on the laughing gas now I've found that kit. The Trick Flow kit comes with 50, 100, 150 and 200hp jets. Once all the above mentioned is done, I think an extra 200 would be a treat! I'd be happy to wait a while for the blower then...

Oh yeah, and cheers everyone on the dial in info. Looks like I'm going to have to get it pulled down and dialled in properly so we can be sure my timing is correct.

Trouble with nitrous is you have to keep buying the damn stuff and it quickly adds up to more than the cost of the blower kit. Waste of money I reckon. Now you can degree the cam with the engine still in your car but you need some special gear to do it. |

BTW I wouldn't bother strokin it either...just stick the blower straight on.

I didn't intend on running it all the time though, rather just put the bottle in the car for an occasional run down the strip. Pete, I'll need to strengthen the motor first tho, right, if throwing the blower on? I figured if the motor's going to be stripped down then I may as well stroke it whilst it's all apart. I'd like to eventually see 500 ponies at the treads... That 200 shot was going to make it a bit easier, allowing me to still drive it daily with ease the rest of the time.

Blower option sounds awsome
With the kit from summit which side of the engine bay will the blower sit? on the battery side or air box side of the engine bay?

Nah you could get away with 6-8lbs the way it is. You should get near 400hp at the treads with what you have
Just run it like that and build another tough short block up for it in the meantime. Actually you may be lucky and find you have a forged piston bottom end already in which case you'll be able to push 10lb with ease. Next time you do an oil change have look up the drain plug hole at the underside of the pistons and let me know how it looks...the cast pistons look quite deifferent to the TRW forged ones. It seems luck-of- the-draw as to which engine you end up with. Mainly it's early pre-92 engines that had them because they switched to hyper pistons mid-92 in the U.S. However I've had a few engines that came out of cars as late as EF that are forged. Recently I picked up an EF engine for $300 that is forged and an NL engine for $600 that is not but I've seen EB engines that are not too. So it's a matter of where the engine came from the U.S. stockpile it seems. Pete. |

And I'd then be able to have trick flow facing the right way up on my intake!
What should I be looking for on the bottom of the pistons?

Yeah! or just grind it off anyway. You'll have to mod your engine harness(or just get a mustang one and plug it in) and muck with your fuel rails a bit but so what? Been there, done that |
