Hey Pete, what are the chances of a '93 XR8 Sprint having the TRW forgies?

About as much as any other. I've seen three sprint engines in bits and they were all cast. Doesn't mean yours is though. |

I'll have to grab some pics when I've got the sump off doing the oil return for the blower.

No gilmer belt, it uses a serpentine belt and the blower is an SQ trim. SQ means "super quiet" because it has helical gears in the box. If you want loud get one of their straight cut geared examples and fit a toothed belt. Thing is the SQ has a stronger gearbox. Centrifugal blowers are very reliable if you don't overdrive them and run a good air filter. Summit only sell the kit which is made by Vortech themselves so, it's the best quality. Another place to try is superchargersonline.com. |

Have you got another block lined up? I can't see the standard one tolerating 500rwhp for any decent length of time.
Richard Leeson's XH (Marks Workshop) was originally running a very similar setup to what you are looking to achieve. Even with the Ford Racing Sportsman block, girdle and a forged rotating kit 507 was the practical limit before he again ran into block problems. This has now been rectified with a DART Iron Eagle. Do your sums and if you want a genuine reliable 500+ at the treads factor a block and 4340 forged rotating kit into the equation. Dart Sportsman blocks are pretty well priced at the moment, you could have one on your doorstep for around $3K.

I'm not interested in exceeding 500rwhp as I still want to be able to drive it on a daily basis. I'm still undecided as to what I'm going to do. I may end up buying another house soon anyways which will mean my car remains as it is for a while to come

For the price of a Ford BOSS block you'll get a DART sportsman, don't overlook all your options
IMO hold off the house for another 8-16 months, wait for those interest rates to fall off a bit.

The interest rates aren't a big issue for me. Just got my eye on a couple of places that have been on the market for a while. If one of them is willing to drop the price to what I want to pay then I'll grab it and enjoy the interest rate decreases when they come. But hey, this isn't housemods.com so I'll stop talking about houses
As far as the block is concerned, when it comes time to me actually purchasing something, I'll start seriously talking to some people and work out what will be best for my application. You'll probably be hearing from me a lot around that time Dave. On another note, hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll be trying to get down to the motorplex again, as the nights are getting considerably cooler, and see if I can drop that 13.9 to a 13.8 or even a .7. I'd like to get a bit further away from the 14...

Well, I went down this Monday again to see if I could better my time, of 13.978. I did, I got a 13.976! It looks like 13.976@101.12mph with a 2.25 60 footer will be it for now. I broke out on that run though by an atom, -0.001.
After my first run, I thought it was all over. At around the 60' mark my clutch decided to slip like f**k and leave me standing still whilst the engine revved its tits off. I eased off and it engaged again and we went off on our merry way. I lined back up after that, expecting to have problems off the line, so took it really easy on my next couple of runs. I got a couple of 14.3s and the clutch wasn't causing any more problems, so I thought I'd gradually give it a bit more off the line. I eventually got it down to a couple of 13.9s in a row. After that though, every run I had started with wheelspin. I think I was too scared to let the clutch slip much more, but ended up with 14.0s and 14.1s for the rest of the evening. I got 11 runs in which is more than I've ever got down there on a Wednesday night. If it weren't for the HSV Owners Club, the Supra CLub and the R31 Club, there wouldn't have been many cars there at all.

If you intend to also stroke it to 347 someday then DON'T go for the new Ford Boss block JD |

Your call but my advise would be to at least wait for hopefully a version 2 that rectifies a MAJOR design floor
