Haha... ummmm... like a cam? To be honest with you mate, when it comes to all this, I know nothing from a mechanical point of view.

Scaffy I was only interested in how the quality looked. That is alright as I would assume the quality would be pretty good being TF. The are reasonably priced cams, similar prices to the FRP cams. Lunati, Crower etc are double the price. I know they mainly make cams, but still a bit of difference in price.

To my eye it all looked tip-top! I took a few pics way back in this thread which should show a bit better than I could explain. I was extremely happy with the way the whole lot looked.

Hopefully in the next week or 2 (whenever time permits) I'll have the big girl in the workshop, getting pulled down and checked out. I'm thinking of throwing some 1.7rrs in there but am not all that sure of the benefits and if they're worthwhile. I figured while it's all apart I may as well make the most of it. I'm also thinking of throwing a different cam in there as well. The only thing is I wouldn't know where to start.

Any suggestions?

If your not sure on cam etc the Crane 2030 /2031 is a good all rounder.. With its extra lift it still lets better heads breath quite well ...
In any build .. Fit way better valve springs than what Ford fit...

I don't think a 2030/2031 would be an upgrade over the TFS1.
With the trickflow top end kit scaffy you are probably gonna want a cam thats gonna pull some more revs to take advantage of the track heat intake.
That, or more cubes.

Scaffy, if i was you i'd seriously consider doing away with the Trickflow intake. Change it to an Explorer, put some new Pacemakers on it, get cam timing checked out, get some decent cats on it and have it re-tuned.
I'll doubt you'll have enough clearance, P/V, to run 1.7 rollers, but then again with the chamber difference of the TFS heads you may be alright.

Theres definately more to be had out of this combo, both on the track and on the rollers IMO. Its just a matter of getting parts that are going to work well together and put out the results.

Yeah, I've got the Explorer intake at home, but it's as good as sold. If the dude who wants it has changed his mind by the time I get home I may throw it on.

Clearance will be fine with the cam that's in there as I've asked Trick Flow the question and they say it's all good.

It sounds like I'll stick with the cam that's in there then. Unless anyone can convince me otherwise.

I'm not too sure what the go is with the valve springs that came with the heads. I'd assume they're way better than what Ford fit. Anyone know?

I would honestly wait and see when they pull the motor down before I'd make a decision on the Manifold.

You seem to be lacking alot more top end (as you explained earlier), even with the cam as well.

Maybe a 2040 cam if you want a bit more, but the manifold should be good for it, depends if you ever intend to go further, either stroker or forced with it.

Like you said before, The cam might be dialed incorrectly especially if it was done by eye and you wont know how good the cam is until it is dialed in right.

Valve spring should be superior to the stock items, as you are running roller rockers.

Not if you keep the Explorer intake...
Better flowing heads like lift and the 2031 has plenty..
The 2040 is the E303 cam with 220/ 220 and 498 lift and 110 LSA..
The 20301 has less duration and more lift with 112 LSA so it has more low end power..
Nothing wrong with TFS cam .....

Yeah, I'm thinking of changing the intake, but as I said, that'll pretty much be decided by the dude who I have looking to buy it when I get home.

I'm still wanting to know if there are any benefits of changing to 1.7 rrs and if it's worthwhile to do whilst I've got the engine open. Clearance won't be an issue.

Also, someone's mentioned to me I should think of getting the heads ported. As the motor is, would it be worth it? Also, I have no idea what kind of money I'd be looking at spending to get the porting done. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure?

Thanks

Scaffy i think you'd be better going for something like this.

Balanced and blueprinted bottom end while still keeping it std.
SVO alloy heads, untouched but ported with new valves.
Spare set of valves.
A/market pistons.
Spare set of a/market pistons.
Two timing chain sets.
H/E sump, and H/V oil pump.
200kw cam with 1.7 rollers (Which really chew out guides)(make sure rockers arent adjustable, you'd be silly to do so)
And of course std tune and maintain std mechanicals but use all of the above.
To complete the build successfully the motor should be assembled once by a so called competent engine builder, started and F**k UP, then stripped again. This is here your 2nd set of valves, pistons and timing chain will come in handy.

Should be good for mid 14 sec quarters and wheelspin anywhere over 2500rpm, should also give some real impressive fuel economy, which is something you should REALLY be concerned about when modifying a V8. Will also give some insane talk figures, Talk?? I think thats how you spell it.

Overall this build can set you back a very hefty amount of $$$, will take up a hell of alot of your time, resulting in lack of quality time with missus,
which in turn makes yourself even more frustrated causing you to post rediculous posts in others threads and not in your own to try and get some self confidence back.

If you have any further questions regarding the build feel free to throw t2te50 a PM, he should be more than happy to help you out!!!

I should warn you though. That setting yourself such goals and carrying out this build may turn you in to a WANKER, literally.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

GOLD!

f**k man, I've never sat in front of a computer and p****d myself laughing. I was getting worried straight away when you recommended blueprinting the bottom end and getting the SVO heads. Then the penny dropped. :D
