I wouldnt trust a rebuild kit to be too much stronger anyhow. Better to just spend a lil bit more and go a TKO.

It's not a rebuild kit, its a new a***.
If I was going for it, I'd get the stronger case as well, thats half the problem, the stock case flexes and the gears come apart.

the kit comes with everything but the bellhousing and the case. The kit says that the gearbox can handle upto 550 FtLbs of torque. does anyone know if the mustang kits will kit our falcon T5s?

Thats what I mean. And yeah, thats why i wouldnt really trust a T5 rebuild rated that high. Housing is still stock and a bit weak. Plus id assume gear sizes would be the same?... may aswell just get a new box like a TKO. would end up costing the same heheh.

The first 4 gears are the same, but you can get a much taller 5th, allowing you to go 4.11s without giving up highway economy. I'd like to do it as something a bit different. They work well on the 'stangs. Here in Oz, the TKOs are tried and tested and are obviously the preferred option for most people

I've used T5s Tremec 3550s and TKOs, the T5 has by far and away the best shift feel. If you can make if hold the power it would be my preferred box. The ED Sprint (and possibly T-series Falcons) used the Mustang Cobra T5 so I can't see fitment as being a problem.

Ok, the car is back!!!! :D Now, there's a few little things to sort now while on run-in... ACT sensor - no port in the Explorer manifold to plug it into so It has to be moved elsewhere. I'd say ideally it would be close to the intake but I've heard that AU has them mounted near the MAF/Airbox and it's better to have it as far away from the engine as possible? I can see how this would work because engine temp wont affect it and MAF/Temp measurement can be sampled at the same point, but air temp can change between airbox to intake, moreso without a phenolic spacer... any ideas?

Or doesn't it matter at all where it goes on the induction path?

Ok, an update:

run-in period complete, new TB/EGR/MAF and induction components fitted apart from a CAI component (Still in the mail grr)

Final power output at this time: 278.6rwhp with 595nm (430ftlb) of torque.

Top end power levels out and torque peaks and rolls off fairly early in the rev range due to exhaust flow restriction at high RPM we are suspecting right now. Fortunately the headers and cats are being replaced with a new set of difillipos and high flow cats some time this week. (For other, more critical reasons i.e. spark plug lead clearance)

Thoughts, comments, suggestions on the build so far all welcome :-) I am happy with the outcome although I was hoping for 300+rwhp, I think it may still be in there somewhere...

Im aiming for 300rwhp or more N/A. Torquey enough as it is but I just want a nice round number hehe. :) Should be able to get it with a lil bit more work. New headers should help a fair bit. Then underdrives, ignition etc and we'll see how we go. New headers go on on wednesday.

Kit came with a mild performance Crow Cam. I think these were the specs:

Timing: IN.26/64 EX.66/24
Dur: IN.287 EX.279
Lift: IN.538" EX.538"

good power without ridiculous idle. So it's streetable.

It's pretty good. Has a failry smooth idle for a performance cam (Although it's a mild cam).. slight bit of lump to it. Makes more than enough power/torque to keep me happy :) I got the Valve upgrade too hehe. 1.98"/1.6" iirc. Could get more HP with a bigger bump stick I guess.

Exhaust tomorrow w00h00! :D

Torque at low RPM s**t me off a bit as the car bounces/staggers with driveline play. Used to only do it in 1st gear when it was a stock engine... now it does it in every gear lol. Go the 230,000km old Diff/Gearbox!!
