Righto.
Simple to install. Even easier if you had the adapter harness (p/n-8874). Basically disconnect the coil plug, connect the white and red wires from your MSD box into the coil plug on the hraness side. Now your orange and black wires coming out of your MSD box go into your coil. Now your heavy red and black wires go straight to your battery, or constant 12v feed. Magnestic pick-up isnt used. Personally i would have went the 6AL over the 6A so you can get the adjustable rev limiter. Jeff

Jeff Ah yeah wiring it in isnt an issue at all, just wondering about any associated tuning that may be needed or anything else I should know when using these. I was considering the 6AL but I don't think I'd be needing the rev limiter as it's predominately a street car. |

Nah no tuning will be required, its only a spark amplifier. I thought you wanted advice for the installation, lol. Rev limiter is handy as its adjustable with the turn of a dial on the box itself. Say you take the car to a mechanic/tyre shop or the likes, somewhere where they will require a test drive. Bump the limiter down to 3500rpm to save them giving it a hiding, unless they know of the box of course. Jeff

hmmm theres one advantage I didnt think of hehe. Ok cool thanks Jeff, straight install then Always pays to ask 1st. I installed the cap last night and damm the difference it made over old cap is amazing! Start it up this morning it goes straight to steady solid idle like it's supposed to. Pickup is a bit better now too. Old cap was well and truely shagged.

I think the MSD unit's rev limiter is adjusted by changing a chip out that you buy in packs of 5. For example 5000, 5200, 5400, 5600 and 5800. Unless they have both, but I've only seen these ones. For the adjustability, I think yours is the way to go Jeff.
It sounds like another dyno run could be on the cards hey Steve?

6AL uses chips... the new 6AL2 which is just coming out in Oz uses the dial like a Hi-6 and Digital 6 Plus.

The Bigmouth Airbox, using the SSi pod filter. The air flows through these things in a spiral pattern apparently and I have heard that it your maf isn't clocked correctly or the MAF is too close to the pod, you can have issues? Any truth to this?

Update:
Finally got the MSD gear installed: MSD 6A Multispark module, Blaster coil and cap. Also fit a 3/8 Phenolic spacer. The bracket i fabbed up from a piece of 1mm thick sheet steel. primed and painted etc. Also, when the BA Pod Box was installed the Headlight relays were just shoved up into the corner behind the headlights and obstructing the secondary intake mouth on the airbox, so I took it out and relocated it on the crossbar above the headlights. Now the extra mouth at the bottom of the box is completely unobstructed. Also lowered teh car onto kings superlows and KYB shocks a couple weeks ago. Next on the list: Nolathane kit (Thanks Mitch_) Get those underdrives machined and fitted (Hopefully XH5LWPN can help there) Another Dynotune Rims You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. |
