hey fezlane, that is a splitting image of mine, brother allright, lol. im after woodgrain steering wheel.
BAD NEWS
driving home last night the fairlane either shat her gearbox or diff. no forward movement. 100ks from home, under warranty but warranty doesnt cover it. also has a 24 hour break down service but she broke down in mt morgan ( smallish country town) and nothing was open at 830pm!!! the lane will be parked up in the shed and copping all the good bits, like LSD 9", 28 spline bille axels, etc, etc. XR-LANE, i reckon ya have pretty much convinced me to put in a manual trans, bugger the auto.
will keep posting as work gets done

Too bad mate. These things are meant to try us. When i first got mine had it for 2 weeks and blew the motor. I showed the missus your post she now wants your guts. Trying to get 10 grand out of her!! I reckon I might go manual too. First thing for me though is respray. Got to get some practice though have not sprayed a car for 20 years should be interesting. Local wreckers has the same steering wheel as mine don't know how much they want for it though.

All the best

nice work bud how much did u pay for ur lane? mine cost me 7g, cant believe u paid $1900 for them rims..if i had the money i deff would of got some 19's or 20's n also if i had the 10g to spend on mine.. boost straight up, it's be so cool to have a boosted fairlane but i'd prob keep mine auto as she is a cruiser :)

thats cool to move this thread XR-LANE. its easyto say that i should have boosted the lane with my 10k but with an untouched / unopened engine, something would have let go, eventually. i dont and never have done things by halves, always properly or not at all. im quite happy with the GENUINE ELGT wheels. and i personally think that there is bugger all choice with what stlye wheels ya can get these days, no matter what size. how many 5 spoke wheels are there?? anyway, the lane is in at the mechanics, narrowed it down to the trans. a reco box to be installed soon.
A THOUGHT
bought a ford probe yesterday, goes quite hard, only had the zorst done. was thinking of putting the V6 DOHC 24 valve engine into the lane with the 5 speed box. if the right people did the conversion, how do you guys reckon it would go??

got the gearbox sorted a quite a few weeks ago now and is all good, so i thought. the lane has now got a slight leak from the head so the missus has given me yet another 10k to spend on the motor. im planning on gettin some serious head work done, bigger stainless steel valves, springs, cam, vernier gears, port / polish. also getting the bottom end rebuilt.
looked at the option of getting it turbo'ed and as i want to stick with the engine in it, apparently it wont be street legal because of EPA laws? got told that i should put a BA turbo engine in the NL to over come this. id much rather use what i already have in the car, rather than using parts form other models like so many do. also getting the auto kitted up. any thoughts on this greatly appreciated.

nice progress should turn out nicely, just wondering how much difference the ss induction made? performance wise etc?

you do notice the SS induction ever so slightly, performance wise. in conjunction with the new exhaust has made the fuel economy a lot better. went to brisbane friday on half a tank, 600k trip.

the lane is having a few weeks holiday in brisane. i have a genuine tickford engine being rebuilt which should be good for atleast 175 RWKW, once tuned.
engine & tune setting me back $7 grand but will be money well spent.

so wheres the idiots now saying that 7 grand is too much to spend on an engine????

nice lane, and I am very jealous of your ELGT wheels.

I realize you probably never intended dropping an extra 20k into the car when you bought it but I think I would have just gone out and got a BA Fairlane G220.

Good luck with the build and hope you really enjoy the car when it's finished.

thanks bottlejack15. i originally bought it fot the missus as a xmas present, she liked the look of it and over time it has grown on me. have only owned it since the 20th december 09, just shy of 5 months! as everything has been done on it, it is better than when it left the factory and will go for another 12 years, if not more before another rebuild.
