started on the rust....

engine bay i got lucky, as it was all surface rust, with one tiny hole the size of my little fingernail, so thats all done once i rub it back and paint it again cos the clear reacted badly

almost got my roof racks off, all except for one screw which has jammed in the nutsert and its spinning in the roof :x

the roof wasnt as bad as i thought, i was expecting s**t of it underneath, but there wasnt a whole lot more than what i saw on the outside which is good.... although i need a whole new set of screws and nutserts as theyre all rusted.....

thats as far as ive gotten so far, after the roof is done, then its the horror section on the LHF door hinge pillar, which im a little concerned about.

but not as concerned as i am with the sill panels, which im told are completely gone, which means id basically have to replace the whole sill, on BOTH sides :(

so i still have s**t tons of work ahead of me, but at least its started!!

i also received my muffler from TUF250 on monday, so I can finally have a decent exhaust for it too!

i will post progress pics as soon as i have access to a half decent camera.

got my roof racks off finally, ended up getting the stuck nutsert out with my large trim tool, which in turn left a nice dent in my roof  the reason being that it was spinning, was because there was a decent amount of rust around that nutsert and only that one, the rest were random patches around the racks. so i kind of got lucky there.

only thing is, i will need to find some new nutserts and screws now...

ive got another question for the gurus.... does anyone have an idea of how many of these wagons were made? im guessing not a whole lot...

Looks nice with that front. I'm amazed that it has rusted so badly! Any ideas why?

ive got a fair idea, its originally a WA car, i think its live on the coast all its life, and the time it spent here before i owned it was launching and retrieving boats for the owners fishing charter company. thats my belief anyway.

one of the guys from work has it at the moment in his shed, and every bit of rust is getting taken out. theres a lot of it :S

ive got some progress pics on my phone, as soon as i can find a cord i'll upload them.

Are you talking Fairmont wagons or XR6 wagons?

V8 Fairmonts apparently quite a few, XR6 none.

Alfy, what did you do with the old EL Fairmont front end?

Also what are you planning to do with the EL Ghia?
