i think this has to be about my 10th garage thread

anyways, look what im getting in a week or so:

Image

Image

its a ridgy-didge 5.0 Fairmont Wagon, with 2 owners from the same family, full service history, its been looked after very well, the seats are absolutely perfect as is the rest of the interior.

does have a few spots of rust though.....:

Image
(not a hole yet but i think its getting close to it)

Image

but i do work at a panel shop and have knowledge of how to fix it, so i reckon il take a few weekends and a few cartons get one of the other guys from work and we'll fix it all.

it needs a really good buff and the bonnet and front bar resprayed because of stone chips, then itl look pretty good i reckon.

its about to click over to 250,000kms but as i said before its been serviced on time and any mechanical problems fixed as soon as they happen, and because of this, the engine is as quiet as a mouse, blows no smoke, no tappet noise at all.

so yeah, i reckon itl turn out a pretty good car in the end. oh by the way, i think i can safely say that BenJ has inspired me to do a wagon build like his :P

so, what do you think?

Wagons Rule!!!!!

The rust around the roof racks looks pretty nasty, but as you say, you have the skills and access to the tools to correct it.

Looking forward to further updates and pics.

Cheers
BenJ

It's good to see another V8 wagon from SA. Looks like a bit of cancer there, but nothing you can't fix. Have fun with it, mine is always putting a smile on my face. :D :D

Take the exhaust noise to the point that it breaks windows on a cold start and then back it off a couple of db.

i picked it up last night, and headed straight to the carwash to give it its first wash in about 5 years

then i went home and ripped the spottie bar off it (spotties were cheap china things and didnt work anyway)

today i got stuck into the headlights, i dont have all the proper tools here to do a good job (had 1200 wet'n'dry, and a 2000 soft pad, and turtle wax cutting compound), but they still came out alright, tad cloudy still but at least theyre not yellow.

also gave the front bar a backyard dodgy spray touchup, as well as spraying the rust spots white to hide them :P

looks a lot better now anyway:

Image

interior is very clean for its age (cept the steering wheel):
Image

Image

engine bay needs a clean badly, havent gotten that far yet:
Image

and i got a couple close up pics of the rust that i didnt show you before:

radiator support panel:
Image

the panel where the VIN is stamped:
Image

and the worst spot on the car (sill panels are pretty bad but this one is way harder to get to..)
Image

so yeah, i got a fair bit of rust repair work ahead of me, as well as giving it a hell of a buff lol.

Pull off the doors and tail gate. Take off the plastic inner guards, seats, carpet and underlay and:

Get some rust convertor on that wagon straight away before it gets worse!!
