Gday all.

So to start with i first discovered the site and saw "benJ's" red rocket and thought s**t this is great... i wish i could do some things to a wagon... i get to the end of his red rocket and hmmm his got a wagon... now seeing how so much can be done for so little i thought ide start working on my wagon (as slow of fast an money will let me) and try to keep people up to date and learn a little bit along the way

now u can all see the damage.. i sorta had an argument with a shed and won but with a few wounds (or battle scars as my mates put it)

but that is on the list to fix as well as a few other mods.

at the moment the only thing i have in the pipeline is an XR6 ECU but it dose have a few things as is:

BA Flywheel
EL 4spd auto
K&N Airfilter

but that's it

ok now what im wanting when im done.

im after acceleration really. i dont want to lose too much on the top end but im not fussed really i cant go over 110 in vic anyways and im not going to race on a track so i just want to get there as fast as i can.

the things ive been thinking about doing are:

T5 manual
Full 2.5 exhaust
Extractors
new diff.. not sure whats in it now but will sit on 100kph at 1600-1800rpm
looking at building a new motor with my uncle.
im thinking of rims but unsure. dont want bigger than 17"
dumped with stiffer springs

now the motor im looking at building will be a mix of two (my uncle reckons it will have more compression but let me know what u think)

EF-EL bottom end
EA 3.9 head (maby shaved)
EL injection
XR6 cam or a better aftermarket cam
stronger valve springs

any more suggestions?

ok been on holidays all month (driving to qld and back) now im back to work. car went great 500-600km per tank of gas and 200-250 out of the petrol tank. (only 35Lish tank)

Ive picked up on ebay a set of tri-Y extractors for $100+ shipping and im looking for a 2.5 inch sports exhaust at the right price to put on.

im getting an EA sedan so the front is going on mine and it looks like i can chase everything i need for the manual conversion in the next month or 2.

ill keep you updated

Nice to see some progress.

Good that you are taking care of the functional items first. Make it safe and reliable, then mod it to suit your needs and tastes.

Re the Petrol not working, begin with the Fuel Pump etc and work your way forward, checking that each component is doing it's job.

Good Luck

o it "runs" but moving with it on petrol and not wanting to backfire is a different subject. its just crap on petrol. ill be doing the fuel filter this weekend and see if that makes a difference and new plugs maby too.

anythin else thats cheap. i have about the same budget as you do... not alot

For spark plugs, I am using some nice cheapies from Super Cheap. They have 3 prongs on each plug which need to be gapped to 1mm each.

They are KLG brand, and I got all six for $15. They are working great on petrol and LPG.

I would also recommend, replacing your dizzy cap, rotor button and ignition leads while you are at it. For the leads, the Bosch ones for Super Cheap will do the job nicely too without breaking the budget.

Cheers
BenJ

You should run it on petrol for 20kms for every tank of LPG you put in.

It is quite possible you have now got blocked injectors if you have not used petrol for some time.

If you have replaced the leads etc recently, and there are no backfiring issues while on LPG, then don't replace them. It is also quite likely that your spark plugs are fine too. LPG is a lot more finicky re spark than petrol, which to me indicates your issue on petrol are to do with fuel delivery, and not spark.

ok update after the weekend....

got a bonnet, steering rack, and a few more little things out of the ea all done on sunday arvo but now i need the leaf springs out of the rear.

sadly it looks like the head gasket is going on my car tho and that's coming at the same time as rego in a few months.... i am thinking of doing a el head and manifold swap... but my expertise aint that good but i know someone who might be able to help i just need to know what parts i need and then im all set.

im also thinking of going straight gas. any thoughts on that anyone? ive got a tank that's inn date i just need to get it installed.
anyone have any experiences with straight gas and ide go with the el bbm too. good idea or not?

ill get some fotos soon.

oh with the bbm swap you will need the manifold itself, thermostat housing a pipework from it, the fixed water pipe from the back of the water pump, and new heater hoses. you will also need all the bbm hosework for the bbm switch including the switch itself, you will need an EL ECU and some wireing (just buy a roll from supercheap)

as for the head swap no point going an EA head, just grab an EF/EL or even AU head as technolegy has only improved the heads or even a tickford head if you can find one. they are all a straight swap over.

with the headgasket, spend 60 bucks and go to ford and buy a metal AU headgasket that way you wont have this issue again and are reusable.

also you might have to resize the images to 800x600 so they are a little more user friendly as the size of the pics is cutting off alot of your text

Nicely done Huggie.

I would however recommend keeping the ED lower thermostat housing as it has all the necessary holes for the sensors, but you will need the metal pipe from an EF/EL that goes in it.

And as for pic size, I recommend 720 x 720 as it will then fit perfectly in the provided space.
