I'VE CHANGED MY INTERNET PROVIDER AND SUBSEQUENTLY LOST ALL THE IMAGES THAT WERE LINKED TO THIS THREAD. I AM SLOWLY PUTTING ALL THE PHOTOS BACK ON THROUGH PHOTOBUCKET. THIS IS QUITE A PROCESS.
I've been on these forums since FM1 and have only just discovered The Garage and there are heaps of nice Falcons here. Here's the story with mine, a 1994 ED Fairmont wagon 5L. I bought this off the 2nd owner from Seven Hills in western Sydney but was originally a Newcastle car. I found it on carsales for $9000 back in 2003. V8 wagons were very hard to find. Here is the car back in 2003 straight after the tint job. The other wagon and the Stato are in the shed. I eventually got rid of the blue ED 6cyl wagon to make way for the V8 Fairmont. Back in 2004, my auto inhibitor switch was playing up causing the eventual failure of the BTR gearbox. I then bought a heap of gear to convert the wagon to a 5 speed. I used a EA T5 and then lengthened the input shaft to suit. Dellows helped out with the bellhousing and flywheel. Proved a lot of experts on the web wrong with this conversion. Here are before, during and after that conversion. I have created another thread where the conversion is described in more detail here: gearbox-suspension-brake-driveline-f4/can-t-find-that-5-0l-v8-manual-gearbox-conversion-read-here-t68567.html Last edited by banarcus on Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:25 pm, edited 3 times in total. |

A few things were changed on the car such as the exhaust and a couple of mods to the motor. Got a bodgy 2.5 Redback cat back system and the BPT underdrive pulley kit plus a AU3 XR8 snorkle. After this I bought a set of CSA Gladiators.
After this, I bought a inlet manifold and throttle body off a AU V8 for $350. I polished the upper and then went to work. I had a brain snap and fitted a EBGT front bar. It was on the car for about 9 months before I bought some good front and rear bumpers and resprayed them and fitted the very rear original chrome strips. I couldn't get the stuff for the doors though so they were colour coded. Last edited by banarcus on Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:12 pm, edited 3 times in total. |

I had the car converted to LPG in early 2007. The car still went OK with the gas but needed more. I bought another set of E7 heads and a Crane 2040/FMS E303 cam, gaskets and a set of pacemakers. I then started on the heads by cleaning up both inlet and exhaust ports and getting the heads milled 30 thou for a bit more compression for the gas and the new cam.
And then the work in the shed..... Last edited by banarcus on Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:24 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

After this, I found some EF Ghia door trims and chrome handles for $15 each so I snapped them up. Also fitted some EF Fairmont seats for $50 each. Somehow I think the wreckers got the prices mixed up!!
The wife came up with a great idea after this. "Should go and find a EF dash." Famous last words and $80 later, I got all the gear in the big box... Last edited by banarcus on Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:28 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

This is where a fellow FM member, snap, came to my rescue. He is a real asset to this site. What I had in the big box was the dash, console, entire loom, handbrake and cable, steering wheel and column and cruise control from a 6cyl EF Fairmont sedan. I had to adapt this my V8 wagon. I ended up getting a ECU and tranny controller off a DL LTD and the engine loom off a EF XR8. With some help of snap and others(can't remember off the top of my head) I adapted and grafted the EF V8, DL V8, EF 6cyl and finally ED V8 looms together. It was a crash course in auto electrics. I used the original ED Bendix ABS system and made a separate loom for it to run with the EF loom.

The car fired up first go but I had to do something about the handbrake. I ended up making a couple of brackets and changed the way the original handbrake lever operated.
I then bought an EL GT gear boot for the stick shift. The car is pretty much done for a while now until I find some cash to put a proper exhaust on it and get the bonnet resprayed. This was intended as a wagon for family, tow the trailer and amongst other things, a clean family cruiser with good economy and respectable grunt that gets some real use. Love the V8 Wagons! Nice colour too Did you polish the explorer yourself or get it done at a shop, looking to get mine done soon.
We'll have to catch up soon so I can see this car in the flesh, perhaps on the next Newie cruise Nice work BTW! Mick

Hey Barnacus
Good to see your car here on Fordmods. I have always loved your wagon, and was part of my inspiration to convert my EB sedan. Cheers BenJ

Great project, the wagz really looks the goods.
I have to convince my mate to finish tidying up his EB 5.0 wagon. Its gone from a 165kW auto to 200kW manual, thanks to an ED XR8 Sprint driveline.

This has to be one of the best wagons I've seen on the forum.
Well done Mark - good to see you are prepared to improvise and seek the knowledge to achieve your goals. Your persistence also has me in awe - the focus to finish what you start out to do, rather than give up and say 'it's too hard' . . . . . .
