Good job there Ben. :D

If anyone is looking to buy those EF Sway Bar links NEW, they are still available NEW and cost $5.70 each part number EF 5489A and the new nuts are $3.30 each prt number V 820177S36D.

Sorry to advertise in your thread Ben, I just thought it might help anyone who can't find decent second hand ones. :)

Yes, a b**ch of a job indeed. I am always grateful to Snap for the time and effort he puts in towards the Wagon.Without him, the wagon would not be what it is today.
Glad to have helped - but without your efforts that wagon wouldn't be still driving I would think.
Be interesting to look at it when you first got it, to what it is today.

Correct. And not to forget that when I got the Wagon, I found that one of the original EB sway bar links had actually snapped.

My rear ones are bent on my EB right now. Fronts are ok. Looks like they are cheap enough to buy new, and as i have near new bushes on mine, i might just grab a set soon. Thanks for the info in regards to them. :D

Cheers

The EB Sway Bar Link Bushes won't fit on the EL Sway Bar Link as the diatmetre of the rod is too large for the EB Bushes.

Hey Ben, good work on picking up the beefy sway bars. Your car will handle real good now!

Shame about your mags though. How did you find the crack? Just routine cleaning or what? Can you remember hitting any big pot holes in particular?

Also, anyone have dibs on your old rear sway bar? Can I throw my hat into the ring?

cheers mark

Sedan rear bars don't fit the wagons. Otherwise I would have fitted one a year ago.

Re the Crack in the wheel, I found it while cleaning the car. Thought it was a bit of dirt at first, but it wouldn't clean up. As you can see it is in a funny spot and doesnt appear to go all the way to the back of the rim. I don't recall hitting anything unusual, but Sydney roads are crap, so could have been anything.

Cheers

Adelaide roads are crap too. Is there really any city in Australia with good roads

Have you noticed any difference at all with the new sway bar links? They look to be stronger and I would put them on because of that reason. But is there a real noticeable difference?

Cheers

I don't believe there will be any noticeable difference, however, when I add in the 30mm Sway Bar the forces being applied to the sway bar links will be much greater, and I thought it would be a good idea to add in the stronger EL links.

Cheers

Why is it that whenever I want to work on the car, it is bloody hot?

Saturday was another scorcher here in Sydney.

But, I still got in and ripped out the left hand front control arms, upright, radius rod and the front sway bar. Had a bit of difficulty punching out the left hand Radius Rod Chassis bush, but with the assistance of Troyman (thanks mate!!) we got there in the end.

Greased up the new Urethane bushes and installed the new gear and added in one thick shim to the Camber kit. And of course, I painted the 30mm Kmac Sway Bar and installed it too.

The biggest issue I have is the front bolt on the right hand side of the sway bar D Bush has had the thread stripped out of it. I tried to put another nut in above the original captured nut, but the nut is too thick. For the moment I have an original bolt in there but it won't tension up correctly and lets the D shackle pull away approx 2mm. Will have to get the brains trust on this. (Hi Snap!!!)

Apart from that, the front end of the car feels good. Nice and taught, and no extra thumps, groans or bangs, when driving on rough surfaces. And at highway speeds, that slight wobble in the steering wheel is gone now too. Quite happy. Feels like a new car to drive now.

With the 30mm sway bar fitted, the wagon is sitting flatter around long bends, and has quicker turn in response, and feels more direct in general.

If you can get a spare set of uprights and control arms, I highly recommend doing the same sort of work that I have now done.

Cheers
BenJ
