The first wheel was only used as standard on ED/F Classics. EF Futuras were standard with steel wheels and hubcaps, as were ED Futuras.
The second wheel was standard fitment on EL Fairmont. Trivial I know, I just thought I'd clear it up. BenJ, I'm very jealous of the sunroof. Always wanted one! The car has come a long way from when you got it, nice work. |

It's nice to see the sunroof rehashed. Doesn't make it look too hard to fit! I still need to work out where to put my sunroof, EB Ghia or EB Xr8?

After a bit of hunting around I have now sourced and fitted a spare set of wheels and tires.
I went for the bogan spec with some EL Chasers.   I am actually quite surprised at how well the std 205/65/15 handle, although traction is a bit of an issue LOL. Of course, the reason for needing spare rims, is that I need to strip my CSA Prowlers of the flaking paint in prep for the black spokes. The clear coat came off really easy with some spray on paint stripper, but the silver paint on the spokes is not being so friendly. I masked up the tyres and the valve stems to reduce the amount of contact on the rubber by the chemicals in the stripper compound.  You can see how well the clear coat has lifted in this photo.  I need to purchase some more paint stripper and have another go at the silver paint. I think it may have been powder coated, unlike the clear. In addition I have now fitted XG Ute springs to the rear with a home made lowering job. I will put up pics of that process later. The rear sits about 15mm higher than before, but I like the subtle rake it gives. The ride at rear now matches the front super low kings, and I don't have issues with it bottoming out on the centre bump stop anymore. So all in all, a very satisfactory result. Cheers BenJ

Those stock EL rims dont look to bad. I was thinking I fitting a modified set to my wagon a little while ago but decided not to. Also on the wheels I would have thought the silver would have been powder coat not paint with a clear coat on them to help them shine

Yep the silver will be powder coat. Harder to remove then paint.
Scuff the powder coat with some 80 grit paper. This will break the surface and allow the stripper to soak in under it and eat it off. A couple of slices through the powder coat (use the edge of a steel scraper) in an area that is either being painted or wont be seen will also help. You need to let the stripper get in behind the powercoat to break the attachment. Also the spray on paint stripper stuff is rubbish. Go to bunnings and grab a can of the selleys brush on quick strip with some 50c brushes and later it on nice and thick. Let it sit a good 15 minutes and blast it off with high pressure water from a Karcher or similar. It is how I have done all my wheels before with good results.
