LOL. Yep, got the factory BA XR driving lights to go in the front bar. Cheers BenJ might have to change his name to sherlock I would have thought 'Shirley' would be more like it for Tooley. With BenJ driving the car - these lights better not be too bright, as I don't see them turning off I wrongly taught my oldest son when he was in primary school (in yr 10 now) to call anyone driving with those things on when not not needed "d***head", we would have him some nights saying nothing but "d***head" "d***head" "d***head" "d***head" "d***head" "d***head" "d***head" "d***head", they piss me off because it makes it hard for anyone driving in the opposite direction if they aren't using them too, just wank value unless it is adverse driving conditions and I wish the cops would catch more of them doing it, increase the fine and demerit points.

BA XR Driving Lights
Nothing quite as involved inside this box as the previous one. I purchased a pair of factory copies from eBay for the not unreasonable sum of $93.78 and they landed at my door for a touch over $110.00. This seller also included 55w globes pre-installed. And a pic without the lights to compare. The rest of the wiring was still in place from the lights I had on the EB bar, so it didn't take long to get them up and running. Cheers BenJ

The lights look great Ben! I should really get a pair of driving lights for my EB GT front bar.

LPG Injection - Installation Part 5
Old IMPCO Gear The final steps of the installation was to remove all of the IMPCO control gear. I kept the relay to switch between the two different tanks, but the rest had to go. I kept it intact so it could be used in another vehicle. LPG On/Off Switch I mentioned this briefly in Part 4, but wanted to go into a bit more detail. The std switch is rather ugly and would not blend in at all and finding a suitable flat surface to mount it against is not that easy with the abundance of curves in the EF/EL dash. Snap was able to solder some extension wires to the supplied On/Off switch. The switch operation is a momentary design and of course requires a substitute momentary switch to attach to the extension wires. Snap has access to some pretty fancy soldering gear, so this may not be an option for all. I initially used a trunk release button from a sedan mounted in the factory sedan location, and in practice it worked well. When I removed the IMPCO control gear, I changed the default fuel tank setting to the LPG Tank. Now I could see how much LPG there was, but I had no way to see how much Petrol I had. I wanted to add a switch so I could manually select the Petrol tank when I wanted to check it's level. I was digging around in my container of EF/EL dash switches and stumbled across just the right solution. One of my early mods was to have the word 'Economy' light up on the dash when LPG was selected. In the pov pack bench seat cars the 'Economy' switch couldn't be on the console as it wasn't there. Instead Ford relocated that switch to the dash. The standard 'Economy' switch is a push On, push Off design, but I needed a momentary version. The rear demist button is a momentary type of switch. I was able to take the button fascia of the 'Economy' switch and mount it on the rear demist switch instead. A bit of wiring magic and it was all in place and looking like it belonged there. The only downside of this is that the antenna height button is no longer there. That is OK with me as I only ever had the antenna at half height, on those very rare occasions I actually listen to the radio. New Switch. I was then able to make use of the switch I used for the IMPCO setup, and it now switches between the two fuel tanks. The installation phase is now complete. Cheers BenJ

Cruise Time
I joined the Fordmods crew this time for a cruise out to Bathurst last Sunday. Was a good lazy drive, with a few laps around the mountain, a few sausages on the BBQ and good company to top it all off. A few pics. Used the wagon like it was meant to be. Tailgate up, music going, picnic goodies inside. This was the first long run with the LPG Injection. I am happy to report no issues at all. Economy wise, I got 422kms out of that tank. That included two days back in Sydney going to work and back. On my recent similar trip to Bathurst a couple of months ago, I only managed 380kms, so there is a definite improvement. Time will tell the full story. Cheers BenJ

{USERNAME} wrote: Can I ask why you didn't find a factory LPG switch which fits in there and is momentary too, when you switched to gas the fuel gauge read the LPG tank, I only remember because if you wanted to override the start on petrol you had to hold the switch in while starting. Which meant most taxis I worked on LOL.

But, I do like the connection between the 'Economy' switch and the 'Economy' symbol in the cluster. Cheers BenJ

Great news about the vapour injection kit.
Definitely something I will be investigating when I get the blower fitted. Does it require dual fuel, for starting, or can it be used as a dedicated LPG system? |

This kit is designed for use with dual fuel. I doubt it will start on LPG due to the small size of the regulator/converter.
Cheers BenJ
