Looking good ben! Does that plastic undercoat work well? does it start to peel off after a while?

That plastic undercoat works just fine. You can get various "plastic adhesive primers" that work on a chemical level similar to an etch primer. Personally Ben, I would have used the PLASTI-KOTE satin black bumper paint, but your several coats of satin black should do the trick just fine. The BUMPER paints are purely for plastic and rubber and retain flexibility when fully dry. Never fear - I like what you've done there and the tail gate of the EF wagon is heading the same way (one day... You know... Money pending...)
As you may have noticed I have extra tailiights in mine, so should really get rid of those stupid big ugly reversing lights you speak of... Then I could put the chrom strip from the back of the Fairmont Sedan on the boot (the curves are similar enough at one point.......) |

i do like the look of the black parts ben. i never knew about the colour difference in the lenses...
i do prefere the smoked look tho. mine has a tiny piece missing the the reverse lense which pisses me off bit time. but i have bigger things to worry about at the moment. like trying to fit 6.5 inch speakers into 6 inch holes... pfft and they guys at strathfield rekon they are all the same size... MY a** THEY ARE!!! ok rant off now. |

Yeah - I've heard "they're all the same size" about more than just those damn speaker holes... Never mind, I managed to get 9 x 6" speakers in my front doors, so if I can do that, you can sure as hell put a couple of holes with a drill and get 6.5" mountings in...

na im going to make spacers. im only throwing in cheap a** boss audio speakers as the stock ones are s**t themselves. the rears are easy, ill just remove the metal mount and throw a spacer in there instead.
any plans for audio in the wagon ben? id love to see what people have done with subs in wagons while still having the boot available. i did think about 6x 15's for the back untill the misses slapped me across the head |

Sub fits easy into the spare wheel bay... You can even put a laptop in there AND still have room for a small powered chilly bin down the left side! (Thanks to RICKS FAMOUS EF WAGON for pointing that space out to me in April or something... For it is a huge usable space that you can put ANYTHING into)
I actually left my spare wheel floating around in the boot for a while and used its MASSIVE space for more sensitive items... Simple really. |

That's three words, or an acronym, but yes, see your point. Oops.
In that case, dear sir, may I suggest NOT fitting your roof lining until you have put an amp and a 15" plasma screen hanging from it.....? |

Too Late!! But thank you for the suggestion. In reality I do not listen to much music, so a 'Fully Sik' or 'Doof Doof' system is not required. BenJ

LOVVIEBEAR --- Just remove the cargo areas interior lining up to the window and put bunjee cords around the metal bits that appear purpose built for it. That lining only ever looks s**t, takes up cubic foot of otherwise useful space and does nothing else worthwhile.... |

I have an upgraded audio system with the factory Fairmont tweeters and Sony 6.5" in the doors with Kenwood 6" in the tailgate. Head unit is a Sony 208W but I just leave it off and wind the window down and listen to the sweet V8 sound.
BTW, making good progress there Ben. Will you get the interior done before your tribe come back from the states? |

Has anyone else put three way 6x9's into their front doors and real solid 6x9's in the tailgate yet? Other than me.... I know Rick did it - and we have the same problem - the tailgate wants to fall on yer bleedin noggin whenever it's open. Has anyone seen that BUCKAROO game for the kids where the horse kicks all your carefully placed luggage around the room when you nudge it? Well - is a little like that really. You nudge the car and - crash. One time a cat put a paw near the hinge and... Crash. One time a butterfly landed on it, and... Crash... You guessed it - I am constantly having to make up new spacers for in between the original boot body metal and the plastic liner as the screws keep being ripped out by the momentum of the speakers continuing when the door has stopped......
Not sure if uncle Ford really meant for the back door to take a KG or three of speaker on each side...... Not really sure if I'd advise others to follow suit without doing something about those gas struts first.... |

Hey Banarcus
I have hot soldering iron in hand as we type. I am in the middle of building the adpter loom for the NF Lane Cluster to work with the EB1 wiring harness. The rest of the interior is already stripped out of the Red EB, except for the dash and door trims. The plan is to have it all in and functional by the end of this coming week. BenJ
