BA DOHC 27 - Battery in Test Car
Well, this weekend I am in Queensland visiting my Mum. Doing a few odds and ends around the house for her and celebrating my nephews birthdays. Last weekend, after the rain cleared up, I was able to spend a bit of time installing a battery into the ED Ghia test car. I had to hunt around for some spare battery terminals etc as the battery I am using is from an EF. The terminals are on opposite sides compared to one from an EB/ED so it took a bit of messing around. As a result I was able to confirm the ED does what it should when powered up in standard form. The petrol pump primed as it should etc. Then I connected my new wiring loom and was able to check continuity across the permanent 12v connections, and the IGN switched lines. I am happy to report it was all as expected. I have acquired new oil and fuel filters, and some cheap 20w 50 oil for use in the BARRA for the test phase. This oil will be dumped prior to going into the Wagon and proper synthetic oil will be used when the engine is in daily operation. I am so very close to the test crank. I only need to sort a couple of wiring connections, and get the new tune for the BARRA PCM. Cheers BenJ

That's great to hear, Ben. If you need any help getting it out/in, give us a yell.

With the poor weather of late, 2013 is a more likely option than 2012 AFD. Keep hacking away at it Ben!

BA DOHC 28 - Odds and Ends Sorted
This weekend I worked through a couple of the little things left before I can do a test start. I checked the start circuit in the ED Ghia test car, and ended up having to bypass the inhibitor switch to ensure the starter motor will crank. I added in the ED temp switch for the instrument cluster so I can monitor the engine temp once it is operating. This finalised the water hoses and hopefully there will not be any major leaks. I attached the main alternator lead after making a trip to Pick N Payless for the the correct nuts and isolator. I sorted the vacuum connections. I swapped in an EF/EL vacuum tree as they have 3 outlets compared to the BARRAs 2. Last night I connected up the SCT XCal3 to the PC and got the latest firmware revision for it. Today I plugged in the PCMs I have so I could connect the XCal3 to find out if I can read anything from them. I am not really sure if I am operating the XCal3 correctly at this stage, so will seek some more knowledgeable advice this week about what I am supposed to be doing. All that is left to do is to change the oil filter, fuel filter, connect the fuel lines, put new oil in, bolt up the exhaust to the manifold, get the correct flash tune uploaded, and have a go at starting it. I intend to crank the engine a few times without the PCM so the oil can be pumped around before it fires. Cheers BenJ

Hi Ben

Does the ba ecu recognise the vss from e series would be nice to get cruise working. Keep up the good work Steve |

Keep up the good work Steve The BA PWR Steering Pressure switch sends a 5 volt signal to the BA PCM and the E Series one sends 12 volts. Thought I should use the one that sends the expected voltage. Cheers BenJ

I would have thought you could just run eb gear and disable ba power steering when ecu relashed. Just looking at doing this myself so doing a bit of research i have el with speed sensitive rack which i would like to keep.
