It looks very much at home in the EB engine bay.

Well done!

finished for now.. the next step is the turbo setup. as outlined earlier in the thread he has my old manifold and piping/cooler so its just the turbo he needs. and most likely a stronger motor lol

Hey Guys

A quick vid of the BARRA in the Wagon.

You can hear the power steering pump. Am sourcing a replacement.

Great work man! Very inspirational! I spent almost half what you did (in dollar terms) on doing the top end again on my SOHC engine lol.

Cheers

Great work Ben!
Seems like it was pretty straight forward due to your extensive but well worth it planning ahead!
The barra looks great in the wagons engine bay, almost as though it was meant to be there from factory and it should hopefully get the wagon moving along a bit quicker now...
Apologies for not popping by on Saturday, I had a wedding to attend :(
Will have to pop round one day for a better look!

Cheers, Luke

FG engine uses a different rear biased sump compared to the BA/BF. You can swap the BA/BF sump onto the FG engine for use in an E Series install.

The inlet manifold is different and so is the wiring loom and PCM. You can mod the FG inlet manifold to work on a B Series so they can't be too far different.

Cheers
BenJ

BA DOHC 41 - Conversion one week after

Well it is now one week since the conversion.

And this week I have driven it the same as I always do. I have taken it to work and back in Sydney Peak Hour traffic every day, the usual evening taxi duties, and even a trip to the airport early Friday morning, and lastly to meet up with the lads on Friday night at Liverpool. All up 500 kays easy.

The engine itself has been wonderful. Smooth, flexible, powerful and quiet. The wagon is now definitely quicker than it was, and the T5 is much nicer now too with the new oil.

The only real issue I have is with the power steering. I am using a modded BA power steering pressure hose. I used a blanking bolt in the factory pressure switch location, and this had a slight weep when under load. I was given an o'ring for it by a local auto shop, but it was a little small. I fitted it and there was no leaks. However after driving to work the next day, I noticed some fluid under the car when I was due to come home. Found an empty power steering reservoir. I had a bottle of power steering fluid with me and topped it up, only to loose it all on the way home. Removed the blanking bolt to find the o'ring had broken. Hunted around in my spare parts and found the near new E Series power steering pressure switch I had removed from the rack. It had a good o'ring on it, so I just installed the switch in the hose, and now, no leak.

The other problem is the power steering pump is noisy. It has been suggested this could be due to air still being in the system, and given that it was nearly empty of fluid twice this week, that could be true. The whine is much quieter now than it was a few days ago, and will give it a another week to give it a chance to come good.

Another problem was that the reverse lights were not working. Found one of the wires had come off the reverse light switch on the side of the T5, so this was an easy fix.

While I was under the car, I tidied up some of the loose wires with cable ties.

No water leaks are evident, so I added in coolant.

This weekend I did a self learn on the LPG system. It is a bit better, but if I accelerate and lift off the throttle, it will sometimes stall. I will do another self learn and intentionally replicate this driving pattern in the hope it will sort it out.

I played around with the cruise control today, and have wired it up, but it is not working. I will need to check the Cruise Control has been enabled in the BA PCM.

I took some pics of the engine from underneath.

Looks right at home.

Nice work Ben! I'm very seriously considering junking the spare SOHC engine I have in the shed & when the time comes to reco my SOHC that's in the ghia, to just do as you have & slot in a DOHC.

Love the pics too!

Cheers
