Excellent buy BenJ, Love the colour and I think the Snyper's suit it well, but everyone will have a different opinion on that!
So, gunna throw a DC front end on it :D :P
Cheers,
Mick

Before doing anything with paint or rust repairs, pull off all the trims around the aft end of the car. Note that there used to be circular shaped plastic / rubber washers around all those penetrations through the body work. Note how they have simply turned to dust over the last twenty years..
The rear qtr window lower weatherstrips are the main concern - all the others are not too much bother because the water can drain easily away. Remove the lower back seat - check the cavities each side, sound deadener + water make for nice corrosion.
That anti draft stuff you line door frames worked well for me - cut in bits, hole punch, smear of silastic, place over weatherstrip retainers, fit weatherstrip in place.

Welcome to the wagon club.
Im sure you will make the old girl shine, have you thought about a NF NL DF DL front for her.
Or becouse i know you love the box car an NA style front, that on the black wagon realy would make her look like a a***.
Cant wait to read about the work.

Yeahp, that's the sort of stuff - or auto trim tape. On the wagons I highly recommend pulling the sill off below the rear side window and the plastic pillar cover between it and doors. Just pull it off (deep reach 10mm socket from the inside of car behind the plastic that has one phillips behind the side of rear seat, but otherwise clips in). Just have a look. You can spot some water and rust in places you would not think possible if you pull the sides of the seats off and have a dig around. Anyways... NZ is more rust prone than large old "what's salt spray?" Aussie.

BENJ --- I know you spat the spanner at me when I suggested you put an F or L front end on your red one, but... .,......

Here we go (Fiend looks for cover).......

Hell, whatever.... The LTD EB or whatever the were would look good on the front tho... Or maybe the old BOX XR6? Sheeez...

WHAT's wrong with driving a a***?

What's going to happen to the side skirts? Chop them in the middle and add 170mm or so?

Keen to see the build progress and what you do the a*** end. Drive it hard around some off camber sweepers factory standard first! Dare ya.

No need to run for cover mate LOL

The standard front will stay . . . . . . . for now.

As for the a***, well I have been busy today and have pulled out the Hayman Reese towbar assembly.

Here it is out of the car

Image

Now of course the rear end looks cleaner, but also sits another inch higher (didn't believe it was possible). Now there should be suitable clearance for planned dumpage.

Image

I think these things on the springs may have something to do with how high it sits. Any comments on if I should leave them in? The rear is very firm at the moment which is a good thing in my opinion.

Image

I also removed the mud flaps, and the crappy chrome strips on the front wheel arches.

BenJ

from the looks of it id say its had an addtional leaf added and those clamps may give it some sort of adjustment or could just be there to hold it in place....id say its an aftermarket setup....previous owner must have been into hauling heavy loads

Oh my goodness- Those additional spring things --- Eeek... Go and find some one tonnes and put three inch lowering blocks on, or get them re-tempered to lower slung. Honestly dude - Just try going through some sweepers fast - go on... Do it... ... Without anyone else you care about in the car to be honest..... And.... Hell --- I'd leave the dogs at home too............

WHAT (if anything) is wrong with that tow set up? Its similar to mine, and would say it is a bloody strong setup myself.... My one is more solid, everywhere, but the design and fixing points look very similar.

Do you just hate towing or something?

Ride height --- Don't quite understand how you imply that removing the tow ball lifted your wagon even higher... Surely the few KG's it weighs doesn't sag the springs that much (even if they are 20 year old three spring leafs.,..!)

The wagons are stupidly high in the rear, as witnessed by my wagon having over two inches taken out the back and it still looks normal...

RICKS WAGON put me onto the one tonne spring thing - and for a total cost of $20NZ (without lowering blocks) this is still the best mod I have ever done, and was worth it just for the odd looks I got from the boy racers when the car was minus two inches at front (XR6 lows) and high at the back! Dude - all those EVO4 and MAZDA dump loving teenagers were staring at the car hard!
