Rick's EF Fairmont Wagon wrote: I am still not understanding why you swapped the manifold for the gas system? Doesn't yours use a mixer ring? in which case it would not matter where it went?
Hi Rick Yes it does, but it is an impco system and the mixer is quite large. I would need to move the converter to the drivers side from the passengers side, which means moving heater hoses, LPG feed line from the tank along with any other vacuum and electical systems. BenJ

Engine Pics!!
As promised here are some pics of the EL engine in the wagon. I drove around 90km today, and so far the EL engine has been running beautifully. I also modded the Fairlane Cluster so that when LPG is selected the word 'ECONOMY' lights up in the LCD screen. And a bonus update. I went and saw Paulc who is the creator extrodanaire of my XBGTEB bonnet. He has now welded the entire XB GT hump in to the EB bonnet, as well as started grinding some of the welds flat. Paulc still has a lot of work to do, including panel beating some of the bonnet, and then fibreglass filler. But, I am very happy with the state of the progress to date. On Sunday, I hope to be tackling some of the rust spots in the rear wheel arches and the dogleg, so will report back on any progress made there. Cheers BendJ

That bonnet... Dude... That's classic styles alright. What practical uses are you going to do with the holes?!
Don't suppose you want to put a EF Front end on it now..... |

Don't suppose you want to put a EF Front end on it now..... Fiend the bonnet that is being modded is for an EB so i dont ever see ben buying a EF bonnet and then having the XB bonnet scoop peeled off the EB bonnet, witch has taken long enough as it is. and then waiting god knows how long for it to be rewelded to the EF bonnet. And i think the point of having the interior from EL in the EB is to have a unique car, what would be the point in putting a EF front on the EB you might aswell buy a EF wagon. And the EB headlights are far better in brightness than the EF imo. |

MATE --- Joshie old bean.... You obviously missed the whole TONE and TEASING nature of my post (even when combined with a WINKING SMILEY FACE...)
Benj has already threatened me with bodily harm regarding EF front ends. I'm already scared enough, there's no need for you and your knee cap happy baseball bats to enter the fray. By the time Benj's finished with me, there's not a lot left for you....... My EF Fairmont lights work just fine with the superbright blue(ish) bulbs in them and a decent cut and polish thank-you-very-much. All good man... Although am keen to see what sort of air pressures and flows the new bonnet creates and how that can be used by the mechanical bits underneath for positive benefits. Once again, we return you to your normal programming. |

ben ben ben.... where do i start... looks tops with the EL motor in there, however the intake needs to be cleaned up good so it matches the colour of the extractors. that grey rockercover looks a perfect colour for the engine bay. maybe just give it a new coat of grey to shine things up.
also is that a polished power steering pump i see??? looks nice. i still have my dodgy designs about the CAI setup from the vents if you want to re-look over them. |

Huggie Buggy - I'd be interested to see those myself. (The plans for CAI from the GT bonnet, that is...)
Is the rocker cover really gray? It looks like the standard issue green to me - although I was thinking the camera used by old pal Benj wasn't up to much, which explains the colour variation. You've seen the car in person, but maybe not the EL cover? Hmmm- -Hopefully Benj has forgiven me for implying an EF front end should go on and can sort this out for me. Polishing all those bits. Damn time consuming effort there, but well done Benj. Sheeez- May have to go pull the last of the bolt ons from my spare EF Mont sedan and leave them out for a rainy day... Not going to try the rocker cover or BBM again unless an AU one falls into my lap. Benj - No need to move the gas setup and put the BBM back on... I know you say it's because of having to move hoses and what-not everywhere... I know it's actually because you need the space for the forced induction........................... |

I understood. fiend wrote: Benj has already threatened me with bodily harm regarding EF front ends. My wife reckons there must be some Maori blood in me somewhere in my heritage, cause I am a big bugger. NO to an EF/EL Front! fiend wrote: All good man... Fiend, you are welcome to fly over a bring all your magical measuring gear and make all the tests you want. But, there is no way I am doing it. LOL huggiebear wrote: ben ben ben.... where do i start... looks tops with the EL motor in there, however the intake needs to be cleaned up good so it matches the colour of the extractors. that grey rockercover looks a perfect colour for the engine bay. maybe just give it a new coat of grey to shine things up. Yes, I am quite happy with the way the STD Grey cover looks in the bay. I do however have an AU Rocker Cover that I am prepping for some Black Paint. And yes I still have to clean the log manifold, but that will be the extent of it. huggiebear wrote: also is that a polished power steering pump i see??? looks nice. I scored that Pwr Steering pump from the local wreckers. I got it out of an AU and appears to be a newly recoed unit, that I happened to need, after the one I installed as part of the Serpentine Conversion, leaked all the fluid out of the front seal. It is nice and shiney hey? huggiebear wrote: i still have my dodgy designs about the CAI setup from the vents if you want to re-look over them. I have the pic here you sent me, thanks buddy. fiend wrote: Is the rocker cover really gray? YES! fiend wrote: It looks like the standard issue green to me - although I was thinking the camera used by old pal Benj wasn't up to much, which explains the colour variation. What have you been smoking? Silver Fern Leaves?????? The rocker covers are Grey - Not Green. Unless of course you have some photographic evidence to prove that Ford NZ did something strange to your rocker covers. fiend wrote: Hopefully Benj has forgiven me for implying an EF front end should go on and can sort this out for me. Yes, my fellow countryman, you are forgiven. fiend wrote: Polishing all those bits. Damn time consuming effort there, but well done Benj. Not going to try the rocker cover or BBM again unless an AU one falls into my lap. I didn't polish anything, as indicated above. The pwr steering pump was acquired that way. Just get some degreeser buddy and things will come up good. fiend wrote: Benj - No need to move the gas setup and put the BBM back on... Damn. You are all right. They are actually gray - although slightly on the greener / blue side of gray than the red or orange side of gray.
You DON'T SMOKE SILVER FERNS mate! You smoke green ones. Man - How convinced are you about doing the AU rocker cover black? Is the family back Benj? There's no one saying anything like "hey, for f**k slow down..." or "you're the best, fastest and most fabulous guy ever..." or "you do more in a day than I do in fifteen lifetimes..." or "are you on crystal meth?.." As usual, I'd love to be you. Although never having met the family, they seem 100% more willing and supportive on the Ford front than mine. Therefore, for that reason alone, wish I was you. There's other reasons too, of course. Starting at the top with "you're not colour blind" and working all the way down to "being a personable chap that has the likes of Snap popping around to do what Snaps do"... Maybe I'll think different once the drugs wear off...... |
