Certainly proves that this engine is NOT a hybrid. But it is nice and clean.

i noticed everything is orange/brown under the rocker cover. Is that the normal colour of the rocker gear?

i ask because, my rocker gear is a light grey and since you said yours was clean, then im guessing different coloured rocker was fitted between models?

Dan, i think that may have somehting to do with different oils used? Could be worng, but i think thats the story.

I actually like the red cover, but the one Troyman posted is also a very nice one. When i do my headwork finally, it will definatly be a hard decision of what colour to paint it while its off.

Different oils or could even be different petrol and complications with some valves etc etc. Mine looks exactly like BENJ's by the way.

Uhm, Pimpdude... You just gotta do yours with an airbrush. Send a blank AU cover over here and I'll do it for you. I'll need a few dollars so I can buy black, red, orange, yellow, white and chrome heat paints, but you'll love your new rocker cover in flames to match your door inserts.

BY THE WAY --- WANTED - One AU rocker cover to suit EF head (not VCT obviously...) Send me two of them and pay for shipping. I'll paint one with your chosen airbrush design and ship it back.
(Unemployable builder must keep busy)...

hey benj mate, just get the bloody rocker cover chromed. will look bloody awesome.

or if that is too much bling bling style, go silver like ya extractors or a dark silver or sky blue.

i have seen red rocker covers and alike it gives the appearance "i coulnd't afford a tickford" look on other then tickford related cars. but it does look good red, i was going to go blue with me old EB but it didn't happen.

just asking benj...
how did you manage to keep the cruise control functional when you fitted the t5 to the wagon? when it was still eb 1 looms\ecu basically.

ive got to figure it out for my eb ghia .(series 2, without smartlock which the ecu out of the parts car will slip right in lol)which is being converted to manual very soon, but i dont want to lose the use of cruise control.

Hi

Well, the cruise was not working in the wagon when I bought it. I didn't try to fix it as I knew I would be converting to the EF/EL type cruise.

At this point I have not got the cruise working yet. I was waiting for the BBM to be put on, but as that may be further away than I had anticipated, I might have another look at the cruise soon.

In factory EB Manuals, they have a vacuum switch on the clutch pedal, just like the brake one.

Shouldn't be too hard for you to splice it into the electrics and vacuum lines.

BenJ

In regards to a bit of colour i think a touch of gold would look tops. Then cruise the streets with Sam Sparros song "Black and Gold" pumping out of those speakers...CLASSY

ah ok.. thanks for your help mate.
i wont be fitting a bbm to mine so keeping as it stands would be the best option for me i think.

so it should be a vac switch for the brake sensor? cool

i'll likeley use a brake switch and put a t peice in so the clutch and brake share the same line but either will turn cruise off, which is the desired outcome.
or i might manage to get the correct switch from somewhere or ford anyway

thanks for your time mate

Hey Ben, I like the black theme you have going. Kinda like the modern day mad max slash weekend car, Granted you only see the motor when the bonnet is up. But i say make it all black and what you dont make black do it in chrome!

Make the interior Black too with chrome inserts and all.

Even chrome grillmesh inserts in the XA airvents!

Cheers

Gidday All

Well, this week I have been home sick. Bloody Flu!!! And it was raining.

But, I have been feeling a bit better, and in between coughing fits, I got a little bit of work done.

Ever since I put on the SAAS Gear Knob I have wanted to get a shorter shifter. As you may know, the EA-ED shifters are made of aluminium, which makes it difficult to cut and shut them. However, I realised that as I am using an aftermarket gear knob, that leaves the door open for a bit of ingenuity.

Luckily I had a spare gear stick I could attack.

I started by using a hacksaw and cutting of the top of the stick.

Image
Image

I just guessed at how much to cut off.

The shaft was too thick to slide into the gear knob. Using a Dremel, and some grinding stones, followed by a flat file reduced the diametre on the end.

Image

This next photo shows how the knob is mounted. If you look closely you can see the Hex Grub screws. There are three of them.

Image

I chose not to use the bottom alloy sleeve this time.

Here you can see quite clearly the difference between my original stick and knob (don't be rude now) and the new one.

Image

I could slide the knob 10mm lower yet if I feel inclined, but will see how it goes for a bit.

This pic is of the original shifter, and the following two are of the new one.

The throw has been reduced quite significantly, and is still comfortably in reach.

You may have noticed that I am now using an identical gear knob, but without the red stitching. While I liked the Red Steering Wheel in the Red EB, I have decided, it is too 'Boy Racer' for the Wagon, and am moving towards a classier theme. I am looking around at replacement Steering Wheel options, and an EF/EL one is NOT an option.

I will also be losing the 'Stealth' feel the Wagon currently has. While I like the look, and it has been fun for a few weeks, it is too 'Dark' for me to live with long term. Keep an eye out for updates over the next few weeks, as I add some elegance and class, giving the Wagon a needed lift, and make the term 'Ghia' more meaningful.

Cheers
BenJ

Count me in on the shifter liking. Have that one planed also. Slightly different due to my garish theme that I find humorous as hell and other people do too. Well, they're laughing for one reason or another.

Good effort BENJ. Hope that bloody elusive clutch cable pack arrives shortly. Have heard from a couple of other people and they got theirs today, and I got mine today too... And I'm in bloody NZ. God knows what your AussiePost guys do with the mail...!
