Thanks fellas for the kind words. This mod has achieved just the look I was aiming for. I am very happy with the visual aspect. Still have to work on the actual light output. More on that later.

hey ben dosen't your hand brake work? there is a brick in front of the tyre

Ahhh, no mate. Another mod half finished LOL. I need to get some EF/EL rear brake rotors to finish the brake conversion, which will allow me to connect up the EF/EL handbrake. The brick is used to ensure I don't wake up and find the Wagon embedded in the front of my closed garage LOL.

snap0964 wrote:
That certainly has turned out good - I'd say you wouldn't improve the look with clear covers instead of the original glass covers.

Thanks Snap!!! I agree re the covers. In fact the std glass covers help to blend in the modded reflector with the EB Frame.

Ben, they look fantastic and it improves the front look of your car nicely.

B.T.W. in Vic you would get a canary for having the fig lamps closer than 450mm apart.

Ta Mate. The rules are probably the same here in NSW too. LOL

Ben J those lights look awesome, well done

remove those driving lights though.... theres too many circles on the front now !!

Thanks. I always knew the driving lights would be a love it or hate it thing. They are staying LOL.

Hey BenJ i reckon that the BA conv. has really tied it all in and even the driving lights now look at home with the three pairs of lights - well done, by the way is it a simple thing to change ECU's over as i want to try my mates police option twenty one in the lane - 5lt ones!

Cheers. Re the ECU, yes it is quite a simple operation. Just have to remember that your ECU will reset as part of the changeover. Can discuss with you further on Friday night.

A light output test - std V BA modded, would be interesting.

Hey snap, i did a little comparison of the lights, and the BA's in the EB lenses on my car give about the same low beam, but much better high beam.

Ben you doing/done testing?

OK. Re light adjustment and output.

I spent some time last night adjusting the lights. I found that the low beam is fine for light output, and I have been able to adjust them to a point where I am OK with them.

As for the high beam. At the moment the High Beam lights are useless. I believe this is due to the use of the EB High Beam globes in the BA lense. The globe sits in the wrong position in relation to the reflector, and therefore does not 'focus' the light correctly. I will acquire some BA High Beam lights in the near future, and mod the wiring to suit.

Cheers
BenJ

Don't think you'll manage to fit the BA lights into EF Fairmont ones Rick. Would love you if you proved otherwise (actually, that would make little difference - I love you already).

The outside edge of the lights may be similar size at rear Joshie, but they stretch and contract and sway as they move forward. The standard EF front bonnet lip is lower than the ED. The Mont and Lanes are lower again. You may fit the BA lights in (gawd knows how, but you might) and only be left with two half moons putting out feeble light anyway as the top halves are under the bonnet?

Ho hum.

There are a couple of issues still to sort. For one, at the moment the wagon is a little cross eyed. I am going outside shortly to fix this. And I still have to work out how to mount the Park Lights.

Doesn't look that bad cross eyed..! And would you please stop modifying the exterior. I've cut out your car with Photoshop so many times now I feel mine is getting jealous and will cough and splutter and idle badly for the next fortnight to teach me a lesson.

Good work Benny. May i have a set as well.
As for the ECU, when i changed my EF Ghia to an ELXR8 ECU ( to remove speed limiter) it was plug and play. Didn't even need to relearn. But you may lose some features like speed sensitive steering.

I believe PIMP_LTD is in the process of making a doco for the way he did his.

A lot of it is trial and error however, and that is most of the fun of modding.

Cheers

Hey Huggie

Yes, I have considered that. However I am unsure if I like having the Extra lights lit up.

There are holes for the parkers to go. It is just that they are MUCH bigger than the EB parker holders are. LOL.

Obviously i found that too, i just removed the little rubber thing the park bulb sits in, and areldite'd it to the BA reflector, on the back side of it. It looks good and factory, and you cant even see theere is a bulb anyway because of the rippled effect in the lense.

I suppose the pressure is on to see if I can do same with EL lights.

and then someone can try EF lights....because they really do suck for light output!!

I thought the EL headlights where the same as the EF except for the radius on the inside corner, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Josh

The problem with the EF/EL headlights, weather they be GLi or Farirmont, is that the lens is Polycabonate, plastic, and this is what cases the lenses to "yellow" due to the heating and cooling of the plastic trapping dirt into the surface and if you put in higher wattage globes they melt the reflectors. You would need to shape new lenses from glass to improve them. Lucky EA, EB, ED owners have glass lenses. EF?EL are stuck with Twinlight upgrade or HID.

I have looked into the twinlight Paul. Ben told me you 1 or 2 pairs in your cars, how do you find them? Are they of good quality? its hard to tell from photos. How bright are they? And what do you mean by HID.

HID is definitely the way to go even with the BA headlights.

I had a good look at the Territory lights and no! not really possible.

So HID conversion is the plan for the EF Fairmont.

BTW, you could buy new glass for the old EA-ED headlights and you didn't have to pay for full new headlights. I once got one from Ford spares for $40 when I smashed a lens on my ED years ago.
