What do you install that is taller, to make it shorter?

BenJ

Well as it disappears it becomes shorter, then taller and then shorter, whoops now limp. Hmm I think I need some nasal delivery.

Funny Bugger. I said 'AUTOMOTIVE', not 'PENAL DEFLATIVE'.

Hmmmmmm. What is BenJ up to?

Image

Can it be?

Image

And the winner is . . . . . . . Fiend!!!

I got tired of the rear sitting so very high up in the air.

The first set of blocks that I scored at the wreckers measure up at 1.5". And they did the job I needed them to do. Which was to bring the back end down into our stratosphere, while I worked out what I wanted, and what I could get away with, while still maintaining practicality and everyday driver goodness.

There was much debate over how far. In the end it was a choice between 2" and 2.5" blocks. Having now done some driving, while carrying four adults and an Auto Transmission in the boot, and a good drive last weekend with four adults and the two dogs, I decided to go for the 2.5". I will get some new Heavy Duty Shocks, and tighten up the Load Helper Springs a bit to compensate.

Here are some pics of the new and old blocks.

Image
Image

As you can see the quality of the new blocks far exceeds the old ones.

And the new UBolts and nuts are much larger, providing an upgrade in strength. Useful for those quick launches.

And, then it struck me! F#@K!!!!

Image

Big Bolt does not fit in little hole. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Is nothing simple anymore?

I have now worked out that Ford upgraded the EF/EL to larger sized Ubolts.

So as it stands now, back on the 1.5" blocks, I need to either drill or file all 16 holes out, or be smart about it and go to Pick N Payless tomorrow (feeling sick 'cough cough') and grab the parts I need out of an EF/EL wagon.

Hopefully, all will be done tomorrow.

In other news, I have not done much with the bonnet this week. I did apply some bog on Tuesday, and while it is curing, it is taking its time due to the cold and damp weather this week.

Seeing as I will be home tomorrow (cough, cough), I am also going to try and get a wheel alignment done.

And next week I hope to be receiving a package from the USA of the billet short shifter variety.

Cheers
BenJ

Mate those lowering blocks look good, shame about the u bolt diameter. It looks like if you drill out the holes for the u bolts you will get to close to the edge. If you can get the El equivalent it would be much better imo

Ooops!!!!

Fixed now.

The blocks I got through Peps Auto stores for $90. They ordered them in yesterday for pick up today.

The old blocks have been previously spoken for. If they don't want them anymore, I will let you know.

Yep, I would much prefer the EL parts. I did start to file one hole out, but it was going to take forever, and then there would be 15 more. As for drilling, I don't even have a drill bit that large.

lol was thinking that but wasn't going to comment. tools and stuff is always handy weeks from now you maybe doing some miscellanous stuff and need to drill a 14 or so mm hole and it will be like damn i should of brought one when i was doing that rear end stuff on the wagon dratz.

Back on topic

looking at the pictures and thinking while ben is home with overwhelming case of "gastro".

that as he said it would be best to goto pinch and payles and source some EF/EL mounts.

another thing

What is the difference between the EL and AU maybe ben ya could get away with putting some AU mounts in possibly.

Good idea, you have a compressor to run a die grinder dont you Ben? You should have if you are able to spray your bonnet. But then again the $10 drill bit is cheaper, those carbide burrs are like $30 $40 not to mention the cost of a die grinder

Drilled mine out (the support plate bit sandwiching on the wagon leafs)... Had to drill them out quite a bit. They're 12mm diametre U BOLTS (yes - they are massive, but would suggest they're strong at that.....!)

Getting them on was a real pain, but there you have it, they're on...

Went up to Pick a Part to grab some lowering blocks I saw up there, but left them there in the end. The ubolts were s**t and the blocks turned out to be just a box welded up from 4mm steel plate. Suppose I could grab them, but phark, probably only worth $40 brand new, so a waste of effort really. I'm driving what you've got BENJ - shinny Alloy extruded things that make no difference really... You could have a welded up steel box... But hey --- It's shinny and alloy.

By the way, I think the blocks I have came from a NISSAN MU (Mysterious Utility) for all those looking for cheap parts, make sure to check the a*** end of the local Nissan MU wrecks.
