What do you want to do with it? I have a spare ED front bar that I will be fitting to my car that could be borrowed if it is for testing only.....

Hi All.

The good news is that the bonnet was clear coated before the Walk in the Park car show at Doyalson on Sunday.

The bad news is, I still have a lot to learn when it comes to painting, specifically, how to set up my spray gun. After discussions with those more experienced than I, it would seem that I have too much flow, and a very narrow spray pattern. This caused a lovely stripey effect in my clear coat application, with LOTS of overspray.

This was not a lost case however. I sanded the clear I applied with 800 and then 1200 wet and dry, before going to visit my good friend, Dr Dave.

Dr Dave kindly offered to apply the clear coat for me. On Saturday afternoon, despite the high winds, he lay down three good coats of clear on the bonnet. I took the opportunity to observe, ask questions, and learn how the paint should be flowing etc.

But enough of me blathering on about my lack of experience. Pics!!

These photos were taken this afternoon.

As I indicated above the clear was applied on Saturday afternoon. I drove up to the Doyalson car show on Sunday morning, and all I did was spray some water on the bonnet and shammy it dry. I was very happy to see the Black Pearl paint glittering and shining in the sunlight. The bonnet will be buffed just before the Sydney All Ford Day on the 31st.

Overall, I am very pleased with my first stab at prep and painting. I can see a couple of areas that I could improve on, but given the conditions etc, it looks great.

And as a bonus today, here are some pics of something else I have been working on.

I have been working on this occassionally over the last six months. I have hand filed all the large casting dags off, and am now in the process of sanding the rest of the surface. I have started to sand off the word 'INTEC' and intend to leave the '4.0' there. I want to achieve a nice smooth finish before applying some colour.

Cheers
BenJ

Hi BenJ

I have just recently read this thread from end to end.
What a great job you have done, The wagon is looking tough as.
I have an EBII Fairmont Sedan an have recently been considering doing an interior upgrade to an EF/EL style as you have done.
I have the interior ready to go in, but I want the car of the road as short a time as possible.
So i was wondering if you could help out by letting me know what the biggest hassles where. IE: Wiring, what fits what adaptor plugs will i need to make up etc.
I also notice the floor at the back for the centre console on the EB has a bracket welded in but the EF/EL doesn't have the bracket, but has the big white plastic piece. Do i need to cut the bracket of to make the EF/EL Console fit.
Do the door trims fit straight on or do i need to do a few little mods.
I know alot is trial and error and i need to learn things for myself, But if you could please help guide me through some of the problems as mentioned above would be appreciated as this is the first time i have attempted a big job like this.
Cheers
Oh also can i get away with just using my EB loom and adapting plugs and bits and pieces to fit or would i be better of getting a loom out of an EF/EL The interior, cluster, cruise, and climate control etc is out of a V8 NL fairlane. Would i be best to use this loom as much as possible
Thanks in advance for your help

Bonnet looks great Ben, sterling effort for a first job. the rocker cover looks like you have spent some time it. it will look nice when it gets coated.

Well, seeing as the seats are already Leather and Fabric, and are considered by most E Series ownes to be the best seats in terms of comfort and support, the seats will be staying. The darker leather is harder to find these days, as it was only available in the Series One EBs, and possible late EAs.

I will be looking to get them repaired one day.

Cheers
BenJ
