Hi BenJ

I have just recently read this thread from end to end.
What a great job you have done, The wagon is looking tough as.
I have an EBII Fairmont Sedan an have recently been considering doing an interior upgrade to an EF/EL style as you have done.
I have the interior ready to go in, but I want the car of the road as short a time as possible.
So i was wondering if you could help out by letting me know what the biggest hassles where. IE: Wiring, what fits what adaptor plugs will i need to make up etc.
I also notice the floor at the back for the centre console on the EB has a bracket welded in but the EF/EL doesn't have the bracket, but has the big white plastic piece. Do i need to cut the bracket of to make the EF/EL Console fit.
Do the door trims fit straight on or do i need to do a few little mods.
I know alot is trial and error and i need to learn things for myself, But if you could please help guide me through some of the problems as mentioned above would be appreciated as this is the first time i have attempted a big job like this.
Cheers
Oh also can i get away with just using my EB loom and adapting plugs and bits and pieces to fit or would i be better of getting a loom out of an EF/EL The interior, cluster, cruise, and climate control etc is out of a V8 NL fairlane. Would i be best to use this loom as much as possible
Thanks in advance for your help

Bonnet looks great Ben, sterling effort for a first job. the rocker cover looks like you have spent some time it. it will look nice when it gets coated.

Well, seeing as the seats are already Leather and Fabric, and are considered by most E Series ownes to be the best seats in terms of comfort and support, the seats will be staying. The darker leather is harder to find these days, as it was only available in the Series One EBs, and possible late EAs.

I will be looking to get them repaired one day.

Cheers
BenJ

I have a spare vent which I have painted bright silver, and it is a bit much. I am going to try a gun metal grey and see how that goes.

Future Mods

Paint Rocker Cover
Fit Electric Sunroof
Secret Body Kit . . . . . SHHHHH!!!!!!!
Paint the spare doors, tailgate and rear quarters . . . . . basically the whole car, bit by bit
Paint Roof Racks
Tint Windows
DVD Screen Stereo and new speakers
Cam
Boost of some sort

And whatever else I can think of

Cheers
BenJ

Well

The Wagon has had a few issues over the last few days.

The LPG is currently not working. It will start and run on LPG, and then just sort of slowly runs out of puff. Takes about 15seconds from go to whoa.

On top of that, it didn't want to start on Petrol either. AHHHHH!!!!!!

It would wind over and over, but not kick. The night before when the LPG died, and I was using Petrol, I noticed that the temp guage was REALLY cold, and the Oil Pressure guage was fluctuating a bit. Hmmm.

I initially thought that there was no spark. So I swapped in a spare coil, no change, then managed to swap in a spare TFI module (in the dark) without removing the dizzy, and still no change. Then I got Luke to wind it over, and found that the injectors were not pulsing either. Very ODD!!!!

I checked the loom plug between the manifold and the engine loom, and it was fine, dry etc. Then I decided to swap in a spare EL GLi ECU and TADAAAA it fired. It idled for a bit no probs, then I turned it off, restarted it, yay. Turned it off again, and, same issue BAH!!!!!

At this time fordebgt93 (thanks mate) arrived to help and with some diagnosis assistance it was established that there was definitely NO spark, and no injector pulse. However, I did have it running a short time ago after swapping in a spare ECU. So, I decided to swap the EL Ghia ECU back in. While doing this, I noticed that there was some water on my fingers. Strange. So I inspected the ECU plug area on the ECU and the plug, and, they both were wet!!!!

So I cranked up the air compressor and used the air gun to dry out the plugs. Reassembled, and it fired straight up. The dash read correctly and it started several times with no hesitation. I am theorising that the water in the ECU plug was causing an incorrect reading from the smartlock bypass module, therefore, not allowing spark or injection signals to be sent to the engine.

So, fixed to at least run on Petrol. The LPG still is doing the same thing. I have checked the LPG ECU, relays and wiring, and they are dry and safe. They could be completely separate issues, so will see.

As the LPG is not working at the moment, I have been keen on removing the LPG mixer from the intake to see how well it actually goes on petrol, with the T5. So this afternoon, will remove the LPG Mixer, and install an EA intake pipe, and find out. I should also swap the XR Fuel Reg back in too.

Cheers
BenJ

Gees, it all went down hill since I spoke to you. Glad you got some of if sorted. What a pain the butt though, lucky it didn't fry anything when it was wet.

LOL, yes it did, but I am at least back to the same position I was in when we spoke. NO LPG.

I tell you what though, it goes really good without the mixer in the way.

Very tempting to leave it that way.

Cheers
BenJ

I've been wondering if you couldn't rig up some sort of mixer bypass that only switches when petrol is on..

guess it depends on what a GR setup costs as to whether or not it's worth the effort.

I have a plan to develop this idea, that is achievable, from both a functional and budget perspective. It would give me the best of both worlds.

I won't elaborate yet. You will have to wait and see.

Aint that the truth. I wouldn't be driving 1, let alone 3 of them.

But saying that, having a family of 5 soon to be 6 what other choices are there? And don't' say Torago, ha!

Ok....Tarago.......lol

Bummer on the LPG issues....

I know some of BenJ's secrets....hehehehe
