While I really would like for you to be able to fix the ED, you may find it difficult to get a panel shop to even take the job on, and if they do, you will really have to be keen to pay the price they will want to do the job.

Please find out how much etc. I would love to be proved wrong on this.

oh didnt think it would be so hard.
SWC made it sound simply, cut the panels off another car and weld them onto this one,
umm i will get some prices just to satisfy my curioursity

what model etc, etc, umm how much do u want for it?

It's a '92 EBII pre smartlock S Pac. Used to be my wifes car and my project car before I grabbed an EF Mont. It's actually pretty straight with little rust, just needs TLC. Would suit a conversion to Fairmont well, thats what I was going to do. In my opinion would be well worth doing as, unfortunately, everyone is spot on re your ED. The mechancials, interior etc will fit right into the EB.

Cheers
RD

It's Phil's now (taxi 5L), he needs to answer that :)

The only spot I can remember is under the LH (I think) tail light. I think there are a couple of other spots but the ole memory just aint what it used to be.

Oh, and I have some baggies of interior plastics that were given to me, they are yours if you want them to fix up any defects you have inside.

Cheers

When I said that you would need to cut the panels and weld in new ones I didn't say that it was simple. It does sound simple but there is a lot of alignment and getting everything right and then there is the welding. A lot of panel to weld there. It is a major job which is why I asked to see pics. I am sorry to say but the rear panel damage repair would probably cost more than the car is worth in total. You will need to check that nothing is bent underneath as Matt said. Need to check that all the doors open and close and you will need to realign the boot sides so that you can close the boot. Happy to help if possible but look too much of a job for home DIY. I would realy look at Phil's doner car I that is the way you want to go or as Benj said look at a Fairmont. I can access a EF GLi for $200 if you are interested. I know it is a runner but the auto is leaking at the rear seal but you have a T5 to go there anyway. May be a better base to start with.

In all honesty, I think you will need resuscitation once you get the quote for panel beating. As SWC and a few others have said, it might not just be panel damage. The EL wagon I got for parts didn't look like much from the outside but had bent chassis rails. If yours is anywhere out of line at all, car-o-liner time is expensive. Now if this was a rare car I would go for it, but sentimentality can only go so far and you certainly don't want to be working for the next 5 years just to pay the bill.....

Cheers

Fingers crossed it works out ok Brad.
To get an idea of the cost of panel repair dig up my thread on my Maverick MAV50L and look at he damage on the last page when it was smashed.
The quote on it come in at $6700............................
Nowhere near as much damage as done to yours.

As I told you Bradley, you may have the rest of the car I have in the back yard. It is straight and there is ABS and Cruise already in it. It would require you to change over the stuff in your present car and would STILL be an ED. I still think you should take the advice of the guys here, they are right about your car.
Like I told you Saturday, you would be silly to let a Panel Beater near it as he will more than likely over-quote you as most beaters would not be interested in working on OLD cars.

Phil has offered you his car he has at home and I believe between that and EDDY that I have you could come up with a pretty good car and a lot better than what you have left.

At the end of the day the decision is yours but remember that EVERY cent you spend on having YOURS repaired is MUCH less that you can spend on the XC.

Take it from me, every cent you spend on one car is a cent not going to another car, I totally agree with george, which is why my EF is still off the road
