You could have a go heating the vinyl below where the mirrors go - use a hot air gun. The vinyl should peel back and you might be able to mod the door cards to suit. I've used this method in making a passenger airbag recess in a non PAB dash, it works very well. Use a wet rag or chux to set the vinyl - watch your hands also, as you'll be surprised how hot you can get the vinyl, but take care not to scald or melt it.

thanks for the tip.i was going to do all the mods to the trim then send it to a trimmer for recovering but i like your idea.will let u know how i go.cheers

Yeah I hope it works for you.
I suppose being GLI cards, nothing lost if it doesn't work.
If it does work, at least you can put that top section on fairmont/ghia door cards later on.

yeah,i was going to use the ef side trim`s but too hard and too many mod`s .after buying 4 can`s of interior paint i did find something close to the ef colour.painted up the xf trim`s.however it`s a bit tight to adjust the seat when all the way back.

Nice work on the interia man, looks great! It would give a much more modern feel to the Xf. Did you grab a whole EF from the auctions or just buy it in bits?

Cheers

Looks very professional - it's only a couple of years ago on here we all said this kind of conversion was not possible.
The match up to the windscreen base looks real good - how'd you go with the A pillar area ??
Bit hard to see in the pics.

It's true, there were a number of ppl saying it wasn't possible. But i remember reading an article on a Xy falcon with a EF or EL Xr8 transplant, engine, auto, diff, complete interia, even the aircon worked! I was awestruck by it. It was really retro tech, and i think that this build should be described as a retro tech streeter.

Cheers

I know this is an old thread, but I am also keen for more information!! I'm about to do this to my XH, but using an NL dash/trims.

Do you have any more pictures of your dash swap/door trims??

I LOVE what you have done!! This is by far the best conversion like this I have seen. Well done 8-)
