Is that ratio read off the sticker on the diff? 3.25 is pretty good, Maybe just a mini spool to lock it together good and if you break it later get a 3.45. I watched the first of those bluebell vids and it looks pretty I normative and pretty muh exactly what your after! See what they do (if anything) to the diff.. In the early ones maybe but the NF/NL they were 3.23 open centres from factory. 3.9's and 4.11's are available in wreckers from Pintaras and Skylines of the same era. If its only for drags just chuck a set in yourself with the mini spool. Its not like you are going to be worried if they whine for 400m.

Did just spend the after noon watching that 13 for $1300 and thats pretty much what i intend to do
for the diff he put a mini spool in. looking at about $500 plus a tank fill could i turbo for that?? i'm gonna take a trip out to the local wreckers and see what they have and price it up to see whats best for power to price. |

have you been down the mackay track?
when i've taken my el and my mates FG down we both had a little bit of trouble getting off the line, i'd go with the 4.11 diff gears if i was you, the sooner you're leaving the line the better |

I have not been down the track as I only turned 16 2 weeks ago.. What tyres we're you running?

The big thing with working out the gears is what length of track will it be run on?
1/4 mile or 1/8 mile? 1/8 mile Id have the 4.11 for sure. Get out of the hole quicker and not getting enough top speed for 4.11's to hold you back.

@Matt_Jew, I keep forgetting Pintaras had the same diff in them.. with good ratios..
@NLFairlane $500 plus a tank fill.. what do you mean? Your budget? If thats all Id get a mini spool, for best traction the widest possible tyres that will fit your current rims, and a nos kit.

Honestly the smartest thing you can do it take it to a track and run it as it is.
Then come back with the results. Full results off the time slip. Not just XX.XX@XX.XMPH. Include 60 footers etc. There are people here who have much experience at the drags and much experience with the 4.0. Depending on your results will dictate where to spend coin. If your getting ok MPH but crap 60 footers , spend the money on making it launch better. If you get crap MPH but ok 60 footers go chasing horsepower. A general rule of thumb I was taught when I was playing with my Fairlane all them years ago , was every tenth you drop off you 60ft time is worth 2 10ths at the top end. To just go bull at a gate chucking stuff on left right and centre is going to end in disappointment. Take it from someone who learnt the hard way.

The best thing you can do to a 6 cyl fairlane is run decent gears and a mini spool. And remove everything thats allowed to be for less weight.
Nos kits are good cheap power but im unsure of the on going costs to fill the tank or the effects it will have on the engine. Reground cams are cheap enough. But doing a cam can mean a stall convertor or manual conversion. What you need to look at is where you want the car budget wise. Andif it will be a long term commitment.
