Thanks guys I appreciate the feed back..
I wanna do a few more performance mods, I don't have heaps of cash, but I would like to; -upgrade the brakes (DBA T2 slotted rotors) -looking for somewhere in melbourne to get it tuned with the mods I currently have?!? Later down the track I wanna get -gt40p -1.72 yella terra rollers -& a camshaft (Should I swap the t/b? As it is a EL2 xr8 or go au? And should I swap the maf, if so wat size/ model) Suggestions would be great, I will add that this is NOT my daily driver it's my 'play car' Look forward to the feedback |

Sounds like your after something similar to my setup.
You can get a bigger TB on there, maybe some under drive pulleys and a good exhaust with some high flow cats. Standard tune will be fine with all this. If your going to get a tune , put a bigger MAF on as the stock one is quite small. If you can get an AU220kw tb it looks pretty cool and is bigger. The EGR will get deleted but you can modify that in the tune. Use the MAF housing from same AU aswell as it is around 65mm. Realistically though, if you plan on doing a cam and heads later I wouldn't bother with a tune untill you've done heads/cam mod as tuning gets expensive. How do you feel about bolting a raptor S/C to the side? The cost of doing that instead of heads cam and the rest would be comparable.

car looks the goods.
i thought you said it had gt40p's since it was the late el 2? something i was going to suggest was the brakes, i have put new pads and new standard rotors on my old e series and the brakes still didnt work well and i also had another e series that i put rda slotted rotors and bendix pads on and it made the car feel like it had a big brake upgrade on it, the difference was amazing!!

Won't have gt40's either. Has standard E7's I believe people refer to them as.
Upgrade from yours to gt40p's is a noticeable improvement.

Difference between P's is I think the p's had the spark plug on a different angle to create a better burn.
And maybe better compression. Please don't quote me on this as I'm trying to remember old posts

I have a few questions guys.
I'm looking to do some engine mods to my el2 xr8. 1. Will the el gt headers I have for my exhaust set up at the moment, will they Fit on gt40p heads or do I have to change them. 2. Looking to get '1.72 yella terra rockers' I want to get a mild set up, what cam and springs could you guys suggest. 3. Anything else I have missed? Or any other mods you can suggest while it's being done. Will these fit aswell? http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/330824714667?nav=SEARCH Thanks guys look forward to the responses!! |

Your headers fit on a GT40p head, mine did, however, you will need to change the spark plug boot (no. 5, the one closest to driver) to a 90 degree plug so the wire hugs the head more, otherwise the wire will hit straight against the header. Pretty sure the rest clear but some are tight.
I think the best way to do this is with a make your own wire kit from MSD. I originally pulled boxes of new wire sets to find something that would fit and I ended up with some chev or something random that had the 90 degree boots on the spark plug end. It worked but now I have the MSD kit and it looks a little neater as you cut the wire to lengths you need. A set of GT40ps from an AU III xr8 (220kw version) or those ts50 ( think they had them) will have the YT rockers, guys sell those heads upgrading to something better. Springs will need to match your cam and cam depends on what you want. I'm not real cluey on cams, when I spoke to my engine builder I said I wanted a lumpy idle with more power from 3000 to 5000. Ended up with a e-303 spec Camtec cam. I love it. Might be worth talking in the motor section regarding drive ability, emissions, things that might concern you. There ain't a lot of room for rocker covers, you can get spacers to sit in between the upper and lower inlet manifod, up to an inch but it does get close to the bonnet, especially if you have auto with second TPS on the Throttle body. If the ad says tall, I'd assume they wouldn't fit. They hit under the upper manifold. Have a look at the drivers side, you'll see how much room there is, maybe even be able to get a measurement and aske seller..???

Got my wheels put on really happy with them, was recently in a car accident a p plater ran up my a**. Ive got a few things planned before i touch the head: -Coolant flush and new bottle/ water level sensor (replacing the brown old bottle) -Transmission service -Sway bars (front/rear) -Front and rear rotors but before i touch the head i wanna get get the old xr8 off the line quicker, looking to change the diff Probably going to go like a 3.9 ratio, =$1700.00 installed (and that will be completly fitted with speedo insink.) I do hwy driving every now and then, or should i go 3.7 ratio instead what you guys think?? thanks |

Dont fear the gear.
3.9's in an auto are pretty good, should be the first mod done. The 1.72 yella terra's are a good bolt on mod but be aware that you may get valve float once you get the rpms above 5000, if you install newer upgraded springs then your all micky mouse. You could advance the dizzy by a few degrees and run 98ron for a few more hp, another good little mod for eseries are underdrive pulleys... Those mods should have it running mid 14's which for the car is fairly quick. |

I once put a V6 auto in a 2wd hilux which had 4.11's diff gears. Had an LSD centre put in as well and the auto's shifts tightened up. Was a fun car to drive, Used to hit rev limiter around 160-170km/h (supposedly) but the take off was very quick and brake jobs were very easy, I'd have to ASSUME a falcon with 3.9's would be similar. I'd go 3.9's, 3.7's surely wouldn't change economy that much on a f/way.
