hello everyone,
I was having a look at afew topics on here and I decided to make my own.
At the start of the year I brought a '1998' EL XR8.

I did have an ef fairmont, which i loved to death and unfortunatley was written off on my way to work. some bastard cut me off and wipped my front off!! :(
Any way long story short having my car written off and being only 9 months away from being off my p plates in vic i said to myself i will get ef or el xr8 this time.

To my luck i was able to get the last of the el xr8 era, with the;
-3.45 lsd
-gt40 heads
-explorer manifold

I am 2 weeks away from being able to drive it but since buying it i have done the following;
Air intake-
3'' pipe into the stock box, which i have then mounted a k&n pod filter inside.
(dont know if there is alot of gain out of this mod, but i did notice it responds well.)
-I brought a tickford snorkel also which i have to mod a little so it clears everything

Exhaust-
The xr8 came with a 2.5" exhaust one muffler, i am most likely going to change sounds ok.
Wasnt planning on changing the extractors as i have been told they are good (4 into1)style,
so i was just going to mainly change the cats to 2.5" (magnaflows)

Interior-
Ive done the usual ;
-chrome door handles
-chome gear stick shifter and nut and t-bar
-LED dash lights blah blah blah..
I have collected a whole lot of LTD burl woordgrain;
-Door spears
-rear vent surround
-double din radio surround
-and t-bar surround
Sound System-
-Kenwood double din
-type-s slipts in the fron
-type-s in the rear
-8'' kenwood sub (which fits perfectly into the existing parcel shelf cut out)
-12" type s sub in the boot
(using a vpower amp for the speakers and a xpower amp for both subs.)

Future Plans-
-Get all red door strips and bumper strips all painted same colour as the car
-fit my EL GT wheels "unfortunatley they are copies :(
-improve the exhaust
-look into engine mods ( any suggestions would be great)

I hope you enjoy my thread, and any imput or suggestions would be much appreciated!!

I got a piece of the hose which is inside the ef/el v6 air box and i modded it so that it would fit with the xr8's maf also, it took a bit of playing around but that way the pod filter is boxed off and not drawing in warm air.

2 of the better engine mods you can do depending on your cash flow is..

1. More cubes. Goes without saying really,

2. Look at forced induction. The 302 responds well to boost, either SC or Turbo.

'Johnson strocker'
I like the idea of (Super chrage) the xr8 probably wont get one for a while though next year or two, as i dont have the money at this moment.

I was thinking doing all the basic bolt on mods first,
like the 1.72 Yella terra roller rockers.

also a question i was looking at exhaust options and peoples opinions,
-2 1/4'' dual is out of my price range..
but, how do the 185kw motors respond to 3'' cat back system?? will i loose power, will it be okay for the xr8 with minor mods?
OR am i better off sticking with the 2.5'' cat back i currently got and look at upgrading when i possibly get the S/C?

thanks guys

I noticed a gain in acceleration when I put high flow cats, lengthend twin section in. 2.25 into a single muffler than 3inch mandrel over the diff and out.

If your willing you could put a set of gt40p heads on yourself, you find them used every now and then.

Hey mate, just had a little read and your cars looking pretty sweet!

Nice interior and engine extras too!

As for bolt on mods, look into beefing up the ignition system, MSD setup or the like. A set of under drive pulleys too.

Thanks lowlane7,
And thank you to the input I have revived so far..

I got 2 x 2.5" magnaflow cats 200cell=$250
&
I went to an exhaust shop today, and the bloke suggested;
With the new cats, 2.5" Y pipe into muffler, then 3" over and out the diff, and he was saying maybe even another muffler possibly to reduce potential droning.
All up for the install of
-2 cats
-and exhaust work
Was looking around $600-$650 installed.

How does that sound?

P.S. I have just had the xr8's front bar painted all the one colour,
Got fairlane exterior door strips and clear indicators/ and surrounds
And had the rear red strip painted same colour as the car as well, looks GREAT!!

Ill post pics in a few days.

Thanks guys
