today i picked up a sony CDX-GT270 from BUTCHER on these forums. i wont go into details but lets just say the total cost of the car project is still $50
Image

he is a great guy, and he is helping me get the car RWC'd next week so its great. (well providing i can get the cash for the RWC..)

well it arrived today.. a little bit more rust then i was hoping for, but she is pretty straight and im happy with it.

the bad parts:
rocker cover leak, i have a EF/EL and an AU rocker cover so ill swap it over and just leave the 1 bracket bolt undone from the cover for the air cleaner

rust in the dog legs, one is pretty bad, ill bog it up for RWC then go to a wrecker and cut off a panel to weld in, the other sides only minor.

the bonnet had bat s**t and took some paint off so EB GT vents were bolted to it to cover them, i have a new bonnet lined up that i will paint and install.

power steering pump leaks - new pump is in the car and will be swapped over tomorrow

tyres MIGHT not pass rwc, there is plenty of tread left but only 1 or 2 mm above the indicators

the drivers seat is like a truckies air seat, the high adjuster is broken and lifts the seat untill you sit on it. i dont mind it as its comfy... but wont pass RWS, the window winder screws are missing from 2 or 3 doors so ill work something out there with my parts container

unsure if the aircon works as there hasnt been belts on the thing for quite some time so ill buy some belts and see what happens.

the tail gate window covers on the side, the drivers side one went airborn in a trip to the gold coast as some stage.. so ill hunt a new one down.

i cant seem to get the GT vents off the car lol. so anyone wanting an EA bonnet with GT vents (there is no center one) shoot me a pm lol

apart from those minor things i believe it will pass rwc. there was a list made up from the last time it went for rwc, most of its been done now, im unsure on the ball joints (apparently its just the covers) and the steering rack but i have one lined up locally for free so thats a bonus.

so tomorrow i head back to my parents place and start attacking the rust sections, scap over the interior (except the rear back of the seats as i need a welder)

ill have pics as soon as i can, i took a heap but my computer is now saying my copy of windows 7 isnt legal or some crap... so i need to sort that before it will accept the phone, unless i can find my micro usb to usb adaptor and use my printer lol

ok pics time...

start with the bad...
driver side dog leg (worst spot) i will find a unrusted section from a wreckers and weld it in but for now ill just bog it up to pass rwc
Image

the passenger side no where near as bad
Image

the passenger side wheel arch, only minor
Image

the only other spot i can see is this on the drivers side roof as it sat under i tree for soo long im suprised there isnt more
Image

here is the front with from what i can tell genuine GT scoops (the center one is on its way to me)
Image

they were fitted a bird/bat s**t ate the paint away, ill be removing them to paint the bonnet then maybe put them back on with the center one IF i can find a GT front bar to match.
Image

this obviously is the engine bay, the rockercover leaks (was ment to be a new gasket but he left it at home so ill be swapping it with an AU one till it arrives) it also almost looks polished, not bad for origional 88/89 casting.
Image

ill have a go at polishing it up when i remove it

some panels were painted, and these black ones looks pretty damn good and factory, so ill be buying matt black septone plastic paint next weekend and do all the plastic strips around the car
Image
yes thats a GT-P in the background, owned by my brother (everyone always asks lol)

apparently this missing piece is somewhere between brisbane and the gold coast lol, will find another one
Image

all of this so far couldnt have been possible by the man of the house, the decision maker... the one whos opinion matters most....
Image
"yep dad.. this bonnet release works fine, no need for another one"
Image

also to add to the list of mods it will get is EL door handles, i have 2 sets here, a red set from benj and a white set from my old EL wagon i stripped. oh and the passenger front door needs a new mechanism as it doesnt hold the door closed all the way, i think i have a spare door around the back so ill see what side it is

Looks like a good start there Huggie.

The rust looks familiar LOL

Wait till you start digging around before you say how good or bad it is haha.

I vote for the T5 conversion.

Cheers
BenJ

isnt that allways the way.. my mate used to own a NA fairlane and we installed the BBM setup lowered it s**t, exhaust, all the usual, he sold it and 2 months later we spot it at a wrecker, panels hanging off it, front and rear all smashed in. its hard seeing an old car destroyed

Sorry Huggie  it's not all about my white wagon, it's about yours
And so the build begins........again. Good thing the young fella is going to grow up helping dad with the many and varied builds......he'll definately be a Ford man. I had rust in the same spot on my NA on the passenger dogleg, nothing a bit of bog can't fix eh!
