well, i installed the sub today as i was getting annoyed with just the speakers and since the back ones rattle the s**t out of the tail gate i cant turn it up too loud. so first stage was to install them amp, then 2nd stage was to work out what to do about rear fill for now.

i installed a switch facing downwards as i was going to install it beside the headunit but there is no room behind the panel to mount the switch and i dont want to start hacking up the dash. its a simple and easy was to turn off the amp if needed. all i had to do was bend the spades sideways. i wish i had a smaller switch but this will do for now.

i mounted the amp to the back of the seat for now as the seat backs will be changed when i get the time.

and this is what you can see through the tint. not alot so hopefully no one breaks in lol

well not alot to update. been a busy week.

i did have an issue of the car not revving past 3k rpm... but looks like i have sorted that out now. took me a while to realise it was there as i dont push the car, it wasnt untill i pulled onto the highway i went WTF....

i was told it was the cat, so i removed the one from the fairlane since its going turbo it doesnt need the stock one anyways, wasnt that, changed coil, still nothing, there was a bit of stretch in the acc cable but i have sorted that now, moving the acc cable mae it rev to 3500 but still wasnt right, so today i zipped out and threw on my 10.0mm top gun spark plug leads, instant 4-4500rpm... seems like i found most of the issue, i also picked up some sparkplugs that were close to new that i had on the fairlane when it had the tickford motor on it but im letting the motor cool before installing them... im over burnt hands lol.

audio wise, the rear speakers (boss audio cheap of the cheap) were pissing me off, so back to my stash, i found some cadence 4x6 splits... well the bracket is 4x6 but consists of a 3-4" mid and a tweeter mounted on a panel. unfortunately they never came with covers as they are designed for inside the doors of car like the AU, so i threw them in the tail gate and the sound is awesome from these little beauties. and when i find a new tail gate panel from an EL with the fabric on it (or even a stock one with speakers grills) ill throw it on to cover them up a little. ill also be throwing some sound deadner in the tail gate as you can hear it just as clear outside as you can inside lol.

more updates soon.

this is the issue i had with the kick-down cable
Image

and my solution. not a single issue, doesnt catch on anything.

the leads

and speakers. excuse the mess in the rear.

well a small update will be unfolding over the next few weeks. i just scored myself a 4.0 from an EBII and an auto box on ebay for a whopping $49... so ill be shopping for some new throwout bearings etc, machine the fly wheel and bolt the T5 up to the new motor and sell off the BTR and the 3 speed.

so hopefully the pans are to have a MPFI T5 wagon.

here is some happy snaps

got some mequires tyre shine for x-mas so i went over the side strips, wheels and most things black

Image

and thanks to blackers10, i scored these from his GSR lancer.. i thought they were SIK-BY-NINES.. but they are actually 7x10.. they are massive. but should be good for rear fill
Image

and my $49 motor and box
Image

i also got word i should have my replacement EB bonnet by friday

well i picked up the motor and geatbox yesteday..i even got my $1 change from $50 lol...

not sure how many k's its done, but it will be getting a new headgasket, new water pump and a few other small items on it before i bolt up the manual to it. i had an isue with pre-ignition on the car yesterday, went to stop the car and it wouldnt stop... kept firing for about 30 seconds... after the 40 minute long trip the temp guage jumped up to hot as i pulled up at my parents, so reversed the trailor in, popped the bonnet filled her up with water, hosed the radiator to cool it down faster and havnt had a problem since... i was told the radiator leaked but never seen any fresh signs of leaking. but when i install the new motor ill be throwing in the spare radiator with it. should work out well i think.

on a brighter note, looks like i have a job working for SITA brisbane.. so they should give me a bit of spare cash to rebuild the motor, but the bearings i need for the T5, respray the wagon drop it 2", then buy a turbo kit for the fairlane... i considered turboing the wagon and V8'ing the fairlane but stock V8 is boring...

oh the gearbox leaks from the selector input ($10 for a new gasket, i done the one on the fairlane gearbox with no issues), the oil on the back is apparently from when it was removed from the car, but ill wash it down and check before selling it off if anyone is wanting it PM me.

this is were its fresh

over the weekend ill be fitting up the thermo fans as im sick of the stupid clutch fan noise, i dont have a switch yet and im not paying $80 for a davis craig one, so ill keep an eye on ebay as there is a cheap set on there. for nowit will be set to activate with engine power (on, not acc like in the fairlane - broken switch)

not much to update. just sourcing the final parts for the motor rebuild and T5 install.

made the wiring for the thermo fans last night and will install them as soon as the temp of the motor drops down... had a bit of cooling issue this morning so im throwing in another radiator as was told this one leaks which would be the issue.

2" lowering blocks should arrive by thrusday/friday just in time for the weekend.

fuses sit in the holders on the left of the relays...
Image

also im in the process of spraying the factory rockervoer that was on the wagon. even tho im putting in a 4.0 and this is the basic OHC 3.9 cover, its still an EA and it fits the car. im at a cross road about the intake manifold, to spray it silver/light grey or leave it factory and try and clean it up as best as possible?

here is a shot of the cover, ill be sanding the fins by hand
Image

and this is what it should look like when done. this is my first cover i ever painted about 4 years ago
Image

hopefully some more bigger progress soon

another minor update, got the thermo wires in, tested them out and something wasnt right... the switch wire wasnt connected, but as soon as the relay was plugged in it ticked.... but would only do it when the fans were connected... more confused... a quick trip through google, a quick print and i found the problem.. i set the wires up for 30 (12v input from battery) and 75 (input to fans) but i then looked at the relay to find ford use 2 types of relays... one is setup in a plus sequence the other is setup like // so 30 would be on the left and 75 at the back, so a quick swap of relays and i was back on track. my fans ill be using came from an ex-taxi EL wagon i bought to strip out a few years back... but when i tested it today passenger side fan doesnt work... so ill be using just the one side for now till i find a good set for cheap.

at the moment the thermos arnt in as im waiting on my mate with the clutch fan removal tool.. aka big spanner thats been cut down and bent to allow hammer access. works wonders.

so i removed the bumper and installed the relays and fuses. the fuses can be unhooked easily by reaching under the front bar or through the front wheel arch.

Image
Image
Image

as you can see i ran the wires directly to the battery for the relays and earth for the fans. ill also be adding another body earth strap this week to aide in the power side due to amps
