Another question for ya mate, with your BOV did you pick up the vaccum from the BBM ? Where the pipe from the PCV originally feed to ?

Ok so i bought this new oil drain pipe from ford today and fitted it up this arvo cost me $140 :O Old hose was melting from the heat of manifold Started pulling turbo off to pull old drain hose off and inspect Looking fairly OEM put it all back together and i used the burnt part of the hose thinking it would still be ok but when i started the car up it started seeping through the lower braided section so im going to pull it back off tomorrow and cut a new peice of hose from my left overs. I utilised the old drain pipe on the bottom of the ford pipe and trimmed the braided hose down to length and it fits up to the sump so well! Pretty happy with it. And theres way more air gap between manifold and drain pipe now.

Love the look of the oil return line, nice and pro. It is certainly needed for the manifold you have. Did 6boost give you the heads up on using a steel line ? |

Nah I knew it would melt anyway being that close to the manifold. I've seen others do it. Most people use the steel drain pipes and extend them with more steel pipe then run a speedflow fittin to a braided hose. I could of got one custom made for alot cheaper but Im going down willowbank on Saturday so needed it done by then and this was an easy fix. Had it all fitted in about an hour and a half including removing and re fitting turbo.

Yeah was pretty expensive huh but at least you know it will last and do the job. I hope mine lasts, the only thing really protecting it from the hot side of the turbo and was by accident is the turbo beanie. So hoping that keeps enough heat away from it. Otherwise doing exactly what you said and extending the drain pipe from the turbo with another bit of steel. |

Yeh I'm hope I'm good at it, I work on cars for a living haha.
Yeh I didn't have a problem with my log manifold and braided drain hose. Held up fine for the 14 months it was on the car.

Yeah if you have a turbo blanket should be fine. Mine didn't have any heat wrap or anything when I had my log. There's not much heat down below it anyway. As long as its braided and not rubber should be sweet.

Unfortunately it is rubber, but has some thick walls to it. So just have to keep and eye on it and first sign of leaks out it comes.

Well when i first bought the turbo donor car it was fitted with a rubber drain hose, when i pulled the engine out and put it in mine i changed it over to braided cause i got a braided oil and waterline kit when i bought my new turbo. Really it should be ok if its the high temp stuff you can get. Theyre usually not too bad as long as its not close to any direct heat source. You can get braided hose pretty cheaply through enzed or even autopro usually stock alot of performance stuff. The speedflow fittings is where the $$ is at. My drain hose doesnt even use speedflow fittings i just use worm drive clamps on the sump end and the hose just push fits onto the drain pipe with some lube and doesnt come off. Would be worth getting braided if you can, over time the rubber ones might fatigue and crack being so close to the exhaust copping alot of heat all the time. The thing i was concerned about my hose melting is that if i was mid skid revving its tits off i didnt want the hose to let go and leak oil onto a hot exhaust manifold and possibly start a fire. With the log manifold though theres nothing under the drain in terms of exhaust piping.
What i always do if i ever change anything in my engine bay i always check under the bonnet after every drive for about a week or 2 to check and make sure everything is alright and nothings getting melted or leaking from anywhere, better to be safe than sorry.

Have to agree with what you said, especially the idea on spraying oil all over hot exhaust and turbo if it was to split. Looks like we might need to extend the drain pipe down with some more metal and attach the pipe. Add it to the list....
Will definitely being checking things every so often to make sure it's still all in order whilst driving it. |

Hey Corbin, where do I get braided lines from? Would love to convert all the piping in the engine bay to braided lines, cause they look awesome.

I only run braided for the stuff I need. They aren't as flexible as normal rubber hose though so they can't really go on tight bends.
You can get braided hose from Autopro or Enzed is probably the best place to get them cause you bring your old hose to them and get them to custom make new ones to the same length and you can buy speedflow fittings there too if you were going to go that way. Or any hydraulic hose shop will have them too. Alternatively you may be able to get them off the net for cheaper. EDIT: just had a look on the speedflow website. There's different grades of hose. The best seems to be the 200 series Teflon braided hose. It's rated to withstand temperatures between -73 to 232 degrees Celsius continuous. That stuff would be the go for hoses that are affected by the heat.
